Glock vs Springfield XD?

Having gone to the range and shot a Glock, an XD and a Smith and Wesson M&P back to back, I would say they go in that order. Glock<XD<M&P

I loooooove my " half-power"! Its modded by cylinder and slide. Its double action!

That's a great outfit to deal with, too....I like a custom gunshop that doesn't request my gun until they're ready to work on it.

I really dig my XD. I've been contemplating a Glock at some point, maybe the 23 or 27. Haven't held or shot one yet, but I'd like to.

Everybody's different, and the feel of the gun in hand should be a big determining factor when purchasing a hand gun. I love my Springfield XD. 45, although my father in law is trying to get me to sell it to him, so I might part ways with it. In WIsconsin, there isn't much point in having a pistol other than a home defense role or taking it to the range. Home defense i would reach for the shotgun first anyways, so the pistol might have to go... If I could legally carry a hand gun in WI, I'd keep it and carry it for sure. Other than open carry, which I'm not interested in doing, there is not concealed carry provision.

Oh! Well in that case they're both soul-less and ugly as Hell. Give me a High Power or Smith 27 any day. :D

Back in the days when I had the money, I had a Belgium HP and a 5" 27. I miss those days! I was also fond of my 4" 28.

The 28 is another grand ol' gun, and you just called out my favorite barrel length for the model 27.

The truth is, out of an absurdly large collection, I carry my Glock 19 concealed with me. Before anybody here says "Ahah!!!" though, no that decision isn't based on the fact that I believe it to be more reliable than my other guns. The real reason I bought it, honestly, was for the purposes of confiscation. If I ever had to shoot somebody state-side, even if totally justified, I'm going to lose the gun either permanently or for a long time anyway as a piece of evidence in a criminal case. Even if I get it back, it'll be in the "care" of people who will do nothing to maintain it or likely take any pains to be gentle with it, and I decided that I don't want to turn a Python over to such brutality. A Glock, however----the very embodiment (to me) of "to hell with craftsmanship"-----well I couldn't care less if I ever got it back or not. Yes, yes...I know that I'm missing the true beauty of it, that it's craftsmanship lay in its simplicity and function. I say bull...MREs are simple and functional, but don't expect anyone to ask for the recipe.

Anyway, if they want it, they can take it. I can always go and pick up another one, stick on some meprolight sights, the Ghost 3.5 lb trigger and grind the trigger guard off round like it's supposed to be, and I'll have the same thing again, with no worry about the horrible fate of a piece of steel art languishing on an evidence shelf. :D

A number of respondents have used terms like “fit” and “comfort” and “feel,” these are among the most important criteria when choosing a protection handgun, these, along with things like conceal-ability, caliber, cost, and availability. What any one person thinks and says about a particular pistol, manufacturer caliber, etc. is only an opinion. They may share that opinion with others, there are more than likely those who differ in that opinion. My own opinion is based upon what I feel is important, the ‘recommendations’ of others may affect how I choose candidates to consider. I try not to make an opinion on those things which I have not tried.

‘Nuff philosophy, now back to guns. Once caliber is determined, and size range, and $$ available, try as many models of as many makes as you can., go up and down in caliber, as much as possible, as well. Ranges rent guns and gun owning friends really like to go shoot (esp. if you buy the gas and ammo.) Use acquaintances made at ranges to talk about their guns. If you are earnest, you may get to try theirs.

Firearms made by, Colt, Glock, HK, Kimber, S&W, Sig, and Springfield among others make quality firearms that are dependable, durable, and reliable once they can be considered to be broken in and any ammo issues are resolved. This is another reason to try ‘experienced’ guns and use different ammos. Different guns, feel different in different hands. When I buy golf gloves, they are cadet XL (read short fingers.) The narrow grip of the 1911 fits well, as do contoured grips. Some grips (S&W M&P) are adjustable w/ inserts. I find the Glock (21) and the shorter models to be ‘blocks.’

Personally , .45acp speaking, I love my Kimbers, I consider my Sig(s) to be the finest made pistols I own, I choose my Springfield XD45 over my Glock 21, and my S&W M&P 45 over the XD45.

Clockwise (from 11 o’clock) Glock 21, SA XD45, Sig 220 Carry SAO, S&W M&P 45, HK USP45, and the blade is a Busse Combat, ‘MarcoBolo’ (Proto)
