Ok, so I have got rid of all my blades and started agin, going for quality over quantity.
I have my SD knife sorted: cutom made push dagger built to my specs and i love it.
My multi tool, comes in two versions, key chain mini leatherman, and a leatherman wave with a bits kit, vey nice combo.
My fixed blade is covered by another custom to my specs, agin its perfect.
But I no longer have a everyday folder, I want to get something strong with a really good lock up, singe blade, not quite Hinderer cost but would love a flipper, the thing is it must be able to be opened wearing gloves, not itsy-bitsy gloves but decent strong leather gloves...oh, and flick knives and balisongs are illegal here (so are push daggers, but what the heck).

Any suggestions?

A Buck 880 would be a good choice if you can find one. They have been out of production for a while.

I'd third the Spyderco Military. It was made to be used with heavy gloves on.

I really like the ZT300 I'd buy one if I could stand recurves, but I can't really sharpen them with my stuff.

I would get something with a thumb-disc, like an emerson.

While i have a spyderco military, and think it is a great knife, i give the nod to my emerson cqc-12 for gloved use. The thumb-disc is just superior to spyderholes and thumbstuds for gloved use imho.

Masters of Defense CQD Mk1 does that job well. CRKT Hissatsu is good too, actually the best way to use the AO on that knife is with gloves. Most large folders (5inch blade or so, +-.5inches) have a sizeable handle and stud/hole/whatever that works well with gloves (CS Gunsite comes to mind). Most Spyderco's have a large enough hole to work well with gloves, its just getting a large enough handle that's the issue so I'd recommend a Military, Manix, Chinook, or Police from that line up. ZT should be good too, they're famously (or infamously) oversized and have a flipper.

When I work outside in the cold wearing gloves the Strider SnG works well with gloves for me but if thats too rich for someone a good alternative is the Tarani 5.11 Investigator that also works well when you have gloves on.

Personally I really like this 5.11 knife. Its a good lesser money heavy duty user with an ambi thumb stud which sticks out well enough to still catch when you wear gloves, a nice thicker geometry tough use blade, combo edge, and an oversized handle with big feel yet small enough to function in the city for you if need be. You get the impression from the build that either of these folders were designed with the plan that they'd be used while you were wearing gloves. Everything from the size of the handle to the over sized traction grooves in the handle makes both more comfortable in the hand with gloves on vs bare handed.

About the only thing I don't care for with the 5.11 is that its parts are all Taiwan with the exception of the 154CM blade steel they use in these but it is a good choice for the money.

Other alternatives I've found that work well with gloves are some of the Harsey designed Lone Wolf knives like the Harsey D2 folder which is a double action auto. I believe its also available as a regular one hand opener but point is its one I'd say would be pretty good with gloves for most folks also as are others in their line up designed by the same maker.

ATR has a big hole and a hood - works well with gloves in terms of opening a little problematic when closing. Emerson's with the disc ( almost all of 'em) are pretty much the same deal -great to open with gloves but a little awkward to close.MUDD knives ( either the original or the bigger ZT's) are the best for using on both open/close with winter gloves that i have run into.
Having said that -winter gloves are a pretty strong argument for a FB.

any of the larger spyderco's would be great, the spyderhole works well with gloves. if gravity/flick knives are illegal there then the G10 endura would be my suggestion. lockback with VG-10 steel, full flat grind, and foliage green G10 handles. Overall its one of my favorite knives. If you plan to beat the hell out of it then a plain old Endura 4 might be better for you as its cheaper and has a sturdier blade and tip. If you like flippers you would probably love a waved endura 4.

I just got an Emerson CQC-12. Works nice with heavy gloves.

So does the Spyderco Military, a much lighter, more concealable folder than you'd think, considering how big that handle is. The handle was also meant to be glove-friendly. The blade looks a lot more fragile than it is.

For a heavier-duty knife than either, I like my ZT 0200 and Spyderco Chinook III. Both handle beautifully, very ergonomic, and the flipper on the ZT is unobtrusive but the blade flies open at a touch on it. (I like the 200 MUCH better than the bulkier 300.)

The ZT line leans toward recurves. So what? You should have a Sharpmaker anyway. :)

+1 on the Military. I can open, use and close mine perfectly even with heavy gloves on. The Spyder hole is a bit larger then on the other ones, and the handle is perfect.

Another vote for Spydie Military. With gloves, the round hole is a must.

Hey Cabron, Nice P226! I like the USP in your avatar as well. I am lovin my P220 and USP9C. I recently turned my friend away from buying what he thought he wanted, and he ended up with a P226. Just goes to show... "Friends don't let friends buy Glock" :)
