Glue finish?

My apologies Bill. I should have worded my post a little more tactfully. Sorry.
Bruce and Stacy have used the CA glue finish a bit more extensively than a lot of the rest of us. Using thin CA glue on softer or spalted woods can give a durability not obtainable with other wood finishing products. A lot of the wood turners will use it as well. It is not for everything though. If I could only pick one type of finish for figured woods, natural or stabilized I would choose an oil finish. At the very least I would use a penetrating type finish over a surface finish. Just my opinion based on a lot of years working with figured woods.

Instead of CA, why not just spay it with polyurethane?

Spraying it on gives a coating that looks like cheap plastic. You have to cut the poly/varnish with 2 parts boiled linseed oil and three parts turpentine. Wipe it on with a rag, saturated enough that the mix will penetrate deeply into the grain. Wipe off the excess and let it dry. Sand with fine paper. Repeat the process until you get the luster you want. I've used this on furniture, gunstocks, tool handles, knife handles, it will last. Guaranteed.

Edit: Everybody has their favorite snake oil when it comes to finishing wood. If it looks good, and you like it, it is good. :D
