Glue line around pins

On lighter color handle material I can usually see glue lines. The latest knife I made with G10 handle I hammered the pins (1/4" ss) and it helped some. But I'd be afraid to hammer the pins if I'm using wood handle. Do you guys hammer your pins to make them flair for tighter fit and better hold? What do you do when you use hollow pins? What should I do to eliminate the glue line problem? I usually use 1/4" brass or ss solid pins and drill my holes 1/64 bigger than 1/4". Thanks.

How loose are you pins when you glue everything up?

In my opinion, if your pins can slide freely in and out of the handle material, they are too loose. I drill my handle slabs so that the pins will not even fit in them. I then ream them by hand until I can just barely fit the pins in, often I need a rubber mallet to tap the pins out after test fitting them. If you get your pins nice and snug you don't have to worry about glue lines.

Try an F size bit; I believe that it is .007" larger than as opposed to almost .016" larger. I have good success with this. A bit of wiggle room for alignment and adhesive.

Aside from glue lines, it could also be wood burning when the pinstock heats from grinding. It happened on my first few knives.
