I'm in the process of making a wooden sheath for a small dagger. I'd like to line the inside with an old soft chamois leather I have.
Any recommendations for glueing the leather to the wood (cocobolo)?

Dap weldwood contact cement. Can't beat it.

Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!

You might want to try a spray-on adhesive like 3M's #77. That way you can get a very light coat so nothing soaks through the chamois.

Yep, I was concerned about that too, that's why I said I was going to use chamois. To get feedback on my choice of materials.

I also thought I'd try the glue/wood/leather on a scrap piece first.
It's not like it's going to be taking a beating. I need something that won't absord readily through the leather but will dry quickly and hold fairly well.
What else is out there?
Thanks

What is the steel of the dagger? If it's a carbon steel, make sure you soak it with oil, otherwise leather will corrode the blade.
I use Fieblings(sp?) leather contact cement. It's never failed me.

Shappa,

Has this chamois been used much? Chamois is normally chrome tanned (chemical tanned)and this could be detremental to your blade steel. Suggest going to leather store and pick up some vegetable tanned leather than probably would be thinner than the chamois and wouldn't bleed through. I'd use contact glue. Just a thought--

Lead, follow, or get the hell out of the way!

The Chamois is marked "made in england. full oil dressed. genuine chamois leather"
It has been used and I was thinking of thowing it in the washer to make sure there was no grit to scratch the blade finish or oils/grime to discolor it either.
I picked up a small tube of Barge all purpose cement and a small container of Weldwood contact cement. I'm not sure which I'll use yet.
I don't think there are any craft/leather stores in my area that carry leather. That's one reason that i thought of the chamois.

Any other suggestions for a liner?

Has anyone else done this before?
Thanks

Dap weldwood won't bleed thru or get hard like some glues.
