Hi,

I used JB weld to glue a pyroceram plate onto the platen on my Grizzly and now need to replace it as it has worn.

Any ideas to remove the JB Weld cleanly? Boiling? Blow Torch? Solvents?

Thanks!

Blowtorch or heat gun, then drive a puttyknife into the joint and pop it loose.

That is exactly why I used a hardened plate of O1 and drilled and tapped mounting holes vs using glass and glue. When mine wears out I just have to use it as a template on a new piece of O1 and slap back onto the platten. No solvents, no scraping or torches. One yellow handled allen wrench and I am back in business.

Pyroceram can be had @ this place. I have not ordered yet cause my ceramic tile has not worn yet. but they do have the stuff.

Rounded edges on 2 sides for a 4" square is $27. I still use a 4x36 to grind, hence the 4" size. 2"x4" is $26. BTW yes the torch and putty knife will work.

We offer ceramic platen liners at a cheaper price than the above link and we ship them for free! :)

Fitzo's info is right on the money. They're not too bad to get off once you apply some heat. Then you just need to clean up the glue a little before putting a new one on.
