Gluing Metal to Other Handle Materials

I tried looking, but couldn't find specific threads. I am making a gyuto with a wa handle and want to use water buffalo horn with a copper spacer and Kingwood as the main part of the handle. I usually use G/flex and just want to make sure that it will work. I know to be careful with getting the copper hot, but will it hold between the copper/horn and copper/wood? I won't clamp too tight and will try to put some dimples in each material, but don't want to get them too close to the edge in case I sand down too much. Or is a different glue better for attaching them together?

G-flex or west systems should work. I’ve had good results with dissimilar materials using Gorilla polyester glue. I use it more on full tangs than hidden tangs, as it foams in cavities, but I will glue bolsters or stacked spacers together first with gorilla glue, then use epoxy for final assemble.

Kuraki is right, btw. Use pins.

Definitely use small alignment pins 24 guage will work and put them close to the tang

I’m make my alinement pins out of back iron twist wire. I discovered if you straighten it and hit it with a small torch you can harden it to where it will skate a file. I then give it a nice blue/purple temper and I’m all set.

I use 1/16 01 rod for my pins. I use a slotted oak dowel for the core of my wa handles and I glue that to the handle wood using tight bond three and then use West system 106/206 to secure the blade, etc
