I'm looking for a small bag for go/car situations, to carry a limited amount of gear. Something that can be carried alone or added to a larger bag, depending on situation.
What I need to carry:
Leatherman (I have a MOLLE pouch)
Olight T25 (have pouch, but it's not MOLLE)
Steripen Adventurer
Water bottle - flexible, I can purchase.
Hopefully fit a GSI Minimalist with the water bottle nested.
Stove: UST titanium, with fuel tabs (ESBIT or UST)
Other odds and ends, like my AMK medical and survival kits would be nice, and my RC4 (or maybe I'll grab another Izula or a HEST)
I don't like belt/fanny packs, as they really seem to be always in the way for me. I liked the look of the Hazard4 Tonto, but price seems maybe a little high? Maybe it's just because I have to deal with all the extra shipping, etc. The Maxpedition water bottle holder might almost do it, but I would need to purchase 1 or 2 add-on pouches to make it all work.

Ideas?

will you also be putting a change of clothes or foul weather gear in the bag?

the spare socks and spare shirt are the things i've most frequently raided the get home bag in my truck for (other than water and granola bars)

but my bag in my truck is secured in the back seat so it doesn't shift around... but it's just a Wal-Mart grade bookbag from Outdoor products. yeah, i'd love a nicer pack, but this is low-key and doesn't draw any attention. it sits in the truck, so i wasn't too worried about needing a rugged pack.

eventually i'll replace it with something a little nicer, but that's not a priority right now.

kifaru sells a E&E pack you can dock onto a larger RAID-like pack. you could also use larger gp molle pouches as car bag, and dock them later. ats tactical and supply captain are my go-to for pouches, although maxpedition has a ton of options.

for me, my edc get home bag is the camebak HAWG. it's a small/mid sized pack and obviously can't be attached to another pack, but it stows more than enough for a minimalist setup to get to where i need to be.

if that's too big for you, try the MULE. see a lot of bicyclists by my way carry them.

Get a Surplus Small sleeping bag "Bag" /Cover , has straps all over it ,with cinch straps and draw string closure with weather flap.. fits gear of all shapes & Sizes and can be stand alone or add to a pack. Just a thought

This is just for the kit stuff listed above, with future additions (all small - I just ordered some Widgy's and stuff, for example). Any clothing will be in my existing pack (Chinese Vulture II knockoff. I know, I know.) I want the new pack to slip inside my existing pack, or clip to outside. I also want to be able to use it standalone for grab and go hikes and stuff - biking, even. The MULE is kind of close, but still too big (because of the bladder), the kifaru E&E seems big, too.

I carry the utg (I know I know But it works well) maxpedition fat boy knock off. I carry a nalgene bottle, steripen journey, amk s.o.l. kit, a small pelican case for phone and gps, xd45 with x200 lite, 1 spare mag, letherman, esee izula with molly lock, esee 6, a amk field trauma kit with quickclot, and 50 ft. of 550 cord. Its not super heavy I have carried it on a couple hikes and had no really discomfort. Given most of the time its in my trunk waiting for action or fishing trips. I know utg is usually classified as cheap crap but I must have got a good one because this thing has held up well. The only real mod that i did to it was cut the noisy zipper pulls off and put on 550 cord.

I switched from a med. alice to a wallyworld bag for thesheeple camo factor. Low key non-discript pack won't draw unwanted attention. Saw one of Dave C.'s videos where he got an old jansport pack from goodwill.

since you (seem to) want MOLLE, did you consider their EOD bag? it's $24 and their XL version is only $32.

if you want pockets but don't need the MOLLE they have their bail out bags, and if you want bigger with MOLLE they have their range bag.

yeah... ALICE gets a lot of looks and questions from curious sheeple.

ever need to give a coworker a lift to lunch or home? a "bookbag" doesn't get a second glance... the GI gear makes 'em curious. high-end gear also seems to do the same thing.

I looked at the EOD, still looks a little big to me. I may go with the Tonto still, need to think about it. It's very close, possibly slightly on the small side for what I want. Maybe I still need to keep hydration separate, or use a collapsable container for that.

Depending on the size and amount of stuff you might want in your "go" bag, you might want to look at Some of the Condor bags.

I have the Fold Out Medical bag:

as well as the Rip Away EMT pouch which is great because it can be part of a larger bag since it has a large MOLLE and Velcro attachment.

Hope this helps...

You could always get one of these then add a couple of modular pouches, that's what I intend to do for one particular kit.

Whether it’s a go bag or get home bag, I only use backpacks. Shoulder bags and duffels are good for holding gear together, but if it’s my get home bag, I’m quite possibly going to be walking home depending on the situation. I want to be able to have my hands free for a walking stick, weapon, etc.

I am using a Maxpedition Jumbo Versipack for my edc bag. More of a get home bag vs a long term pack. It is very well made and well thought out. However, my wife bought a knock-off for herself which was half the price and even though the quality is not quite as good, it does the same job. :o

Holds quite a bit of stuff and is well made.

I currently have:
2 -cliff bars
1 -bottle tablet water purification
1 -fire striker and file
1 -small lighter
2 -pack of water proof matches
2 -emergency blankets
1 -headlamp
1 -small flash light
1 -small sewing kit
1 -small first aid kit
1 -multi-tool
2 -5 hour energy drinks
1 -pack of crackers and cheese
1 - emergency whistle/compass combo
1 - DMT mini-sharpener

Also have my Izula on me at all times. Just a suggestion that a smaller pack can work. I think that is more than enough to get me home. If I am going on a long trip I pack more stuff.

Pay the question less attention than the curious gives it. If they say anything about it, just look at it and go, "It's a cheap, surplus backpack." Shrug at them and if they go any farther with some type of "questioning," just deflect them and talk about sports or the weather or whatever other hypnotic nonsense "normal" people fall under the spell of... :)

If they push past that, just look at them innocent and say, "Dude, why are you so concerned with a surplus backpack? I carry extra drawers and stuff in it..."

Or you could add, "Wanna sniff?" :D

Let me refine this a little: the primary purpose of this is to hold a small amount of gear that I can just grab on the way out the door, drop it in the car, carry on my person (shoulder strap), attach or load into another backpack. I've kind of nailed down the gear I most often take already, it just ends up rolling anound on the seat or the floor right now, and is kind of hard to stuff it all in my pockets.
That being said, the Condor fold-out med bag looks promising, and the price is nice - something similar with MOLLE? I like to be able to have stuff like the Leatherman external from the main pack.

Consider the Maxpedition Remora, Lunada, or Malaga. I have one of each, and 2 of the Remoras. I can't help it. Pick the flavor that best suits your load, which I would guess are the Lunada or Malaga, as the Remora may be too small for you application.

The new (Soon to be released ) ESEE Pouches  :D

OK, I guess I will wait on the ESEE pouches and make the decision then. I loves me some ESEE - just have to see how easy it will be to get one to me up in Canada.
