Go bag/ car bag suggestions

I have Jeff and Mike's sites linked up on my website and blog and just have not been keeping up with stuff.

Both of those packs look absolutely terrific. I really like the fact they are not just another zip-up MOLLE pouch like 5.11 is putting out, etc.

The ESEE bags would be a great choice.

I recently had the pleasure of reviewing a bag from Mountain Ridge Gear called the Tactical Man Purse. It is AMAZING. The quality is right there with Kifaru and the pricing is unbelievable. The gentleman who runs MRG is actually a career Airman from Colorado who has refined his skills under some of the folks at Kifaru. I think it would be a great choice for car bag.

If you want my two cents... the best bug out "bag" for a car is one of those gay journo/contractor/safari vests (that no real adventurer actually wears) with all your gizmos in the pockets and back storage flap. Then put that over the passenger seat of your vehicle so you can reach stuff and in "walk out" situations you simply wear the damn thing.

I don't know if it's been mentioned yet, but the Countycomm EOD bag served me well for a long while and wasn't expensive at all.

As with any bugout bag or survival kit I think it should be highly mobile-and that means comfortable shoulder straps. Vans makes a treated canvas military style duffel bag with hidden pack straps for 65 bucks-it's a pretty awesome design. I think that's the direction I'd be headed.

Hmmmm, I was looking at a khaki "Safari" vest the other day thinking about using it when I am out on photo shoots to carry some pieces of kit in, and I like the idea of storing it hanging over the seat... but lately I have been wondering if maybe one of Alayna's old diaper bags might make a good "truck-kit bag".

I've got a Kakadu Traveler cargo vest and it rocks, pocket design and durable canvas construction... though RYP is right, I've never used the damn thing.

I'm using an old Camelbak Motherlode for the GHB I'm putting together. It's one of the older style packs that doesn't have the molle loops on it. I've used it as a book bag for college classes and it's never drawn any attention. I think the Camelbak along with the new RAT Pack will be a great combo.

ETA:

It's like this one, only in OD green:

only problem is that when contractors in the sandbox started using them to cover sidearms while doing executive protection they became popular back in the states as cover garments to hide CCW guns,,, and now some people will assume that if you're wearing a photo vest and you don't have a camera in your hands you're hiding a gun.

so they've earned the name "shoot me first" vests!

i use some of the larger ones to organize my jumoer cables, tow straps and some other tools and junk in the truck.

PhoTog Vests were used for years before your average American ever heard the term "contractor." Banana Republic's fine example was already long gone (out of business) by the time "contractor" became a common term. Cabela's vest is the closest you will get to the original BR vest. I was wearing a Rio Bravo vest for most of the 90s over an Ike Jacket at work. 5.11's are great but they are very heavy. If you want one for late fall to early spring that you can wear with a hoodie unless you live in the arctic, that would be the one to get. For more comfortable wear in hotter areas, the Cabela's would work or a DOMKE which has much more mesh construction, lighter and cooler.
