It's time to reverse the flow for a while! I came West as a young man, to the Pacific, about the time Paul Hilborn's new-old Case 6244 was born. I raised some kids, and scoured the coast for traditional knives!
Having never been to the Maritime Provinces, I figure they have a few old knives hidden somewhere, so it is my mission to bring back a few! And to visit the Grohmann Factory if possible.
Nova Scotia and PEI, here I come!
Here's hoping the knife content of this thread will grow over the next two or so weeks!
Meantime, if you have a Canadian made knife, or if you have a story that has anything to do with the east coast anywhere on the Atlantic, feel free to help me keep this thread in Traditional Forums!!:D

Travel safe Charlie and may riches await your arrival!!! I know several of the "East Coaster's" will produce some interesting knives in posts to follow.

I know you said you were going to NS and PEI. Maybe not the type of knife you are looking for, but Sean O'Hare from Grand Manaan, NB makes some great knives. I have not been to see his setup in NB, but I see his knives every year in Atlanta and they are very nice.
It is a bit of trek to get to Grand Manaan though. Safe travels.

Thanks for all the good wishes!!
A-knife huntin' we will go!!
(among the other things one does on vacation, as my sweetie gently reminded me!!)
Off to the airport!!

Have a wonderful time Charlie!

Have a great time Charlie, and Happy Hunting! ;)

Good luck Charlie. Hope you find some hidden gems.

Have a great trip Charlie. Check out Government buildings, apparently they carried knives in the past
Don't forget Donald Bell, he's a custom knife maker and a jeweler who will make your Sweety happy.:D
Best regards

Robin

Hey Charlie,

I own a couple Grohmann CBK's, shown in this pic along with a JK CBK.

I had a Grohmann/Russell CBK when I was a teenager, it belonged to my dad, and I had weaseled it from him. I foolishly threw it out by mistake at some point while cleaning my room, and it's been haunting me ever since. I could acquire a 100 of them, and they would never replace the one I lost as a stupid kid.

Anyway, have safe travels and good times!

Glenn

Have a fruitful and exciting trip with your sweetie, Charlie. May a few peaches fall from the Tree.;)

Charlie, the closest thing to a Canadian knife I have is this Ontario RAT Railsplitter in ram's horn and D2, a real bruiser!

Left Nova Scotia and arrived in Charlottetown PEI last night. Brought with me one of the "lost" old Lambfoot bladed knives - stag handled no less - from a country antique store. Also found a few other misc. folders.
Finding old knives is alive and well in the Maritime Provinces!!
Pics when I return ca. Oct 1st.

Glad to hear you have had some success in finding knives in the Maritimes.

Don't forget to eat some of that great seafood!! Safe travels.

I've been planning a trip to Maine for some time, with an excursion to Canada. The east coast of Canada has always held my interest. I had a Grohmann and the Cold Steel knockoff but I sold or traded them.

My favorite Canadian knife though is the Hudson Bay camp knife (and one of my fave patterns period). You might only see those in the interior in a museum, but you might find an oldie. I'm guessing lots of scrimshaw up that way, hopefully some sailors had a few barlows for stumbling about port.

I've found knives in bait/boat supply shops on the MD eastern shore. Hit or miss but worth a shot.

That's a "country" short vacation, postman has been kind around here.Enjoy each other.
