Go Large--The BF Big Folder Thread

This thread, maybe more than any other here on BF since I joined three years ago, has cost me money. :D

It helped spark my interest in big folders, starting with the Grayman Satu and ZT 0200 (which taught me a lot, but which I no longer have) and leading to these three (top to bottom: Spyderco Military, ZT 0452, Spyderco Pacific Salt SE).

I just got the Pacific Salt in today, and while it just barely squeaks in on blade length for this thread's requirements, it's amazing that they packed a large blade into more of a medium-sized overall package -- and kept the weight to just 3 oz.

Thanks for keeping this excellent thread going! :)

I apologize to your wallet, Dadpool Dadpool , but you seem happy with your new acquisitions. I have the same top two knives as those in your pic.

I haven't been over here for a while and realize I didn't post one of those. I had just posted my KW exclusive Millie in S90V, Ti, and CF when a friendly member PM'd offering his KW green G10 CTS204P LNIB at a nice price.

I've got 4 Millies now as that model has become one of my favorites. Here's the latest.

The Thread That Costs Me Money continues to deliver. :D Once I started researching the Microtech Socom Elite, I knew was going to wind up buying one. It's my first Microtech, and so far it's everything I hoped it would be.

That looks like a half-pound of fun right there!
0.521875 pounds to be exact ;) Pretty darn good slicer, even with the thick blade stock :)

Well, I scrolled through all 13 pages, and have to say that close-ups and camera angles don't really make a folder large. When I think large, I think "...this is a knife" large.

While a few of those shown might have qualified, I think The Peacent is the one that really understands the concept of a large folder- good job!

I just snagged an Emerson Super Commander, and I can comfortably say that this is probably the upper bound of what I can practically carry. It's also yet another knife purchase I blame on this thread. ;)

Just for fun, a size comparison between the Super Commander and my other two favorite 4" blades, the Spyderco Military and Microtech Socom Elite, alongside my usual EDC, the XM-18 3.5. It's not easy for a knife the same length as the Millie to make it look small, but somehow the SC manages it!

You think the Super is awesome, ever held an UBR Commander? :D

I have not! Maybe someday. I did evaluate the UBR and the regular before settling on the Super -- this is probably my upper limit, size- and weight-wise, for a knife I'd carry with any regularity.

You made the right choice, honestly. I mainly just keep the UBR as a curiosity. I have the entire "family", so to speak, and the Super Com is definitely my favorite of the bunch.
