Go to gift knives?

I bought about 20 of the 110's from Walmart online just before the big price hike at the end of 2021. I think I have about 5 left, so 15 were gifted to friends, family, and neighbors. This led to a few of those recipients purchasing many other Buck knives.

A lot of those had nice blonde streaks in the ebony wood.

Did you at least pick the best specimen to keep for yourself?

Count me in the 110 crowd, I guess. When I was 10, (1986-ish) I gifted a Buck 120 to my Dad, because it was the most awesome knife I knew of at the time. Still a pretty awesome knife. More recently, I've gifted 3 110s, and a custom 112 to close friends and family. Most every person I know is into knives, so I give the ones that I would like to receive myself.

I’ve given some 112 slim select as gifts to my grandkids as well as standard 112s. They all were well received and they are still carrying/using them. The younger ones I gave the nano bantoms and most of them have outgrown them now so they will probably earn the money to buy their own now. I’ve also given a few 55 and 302 as gifts and 110 slim. I guess it depends on who it is and their lifestyle as what I consider would be appropriate. It’s hard to go wrong when you gift a Buck knife. Lol

I know a lot of people like the blond streaks in the ebony, but I personally prefer the uniform dark ebony scales. Probably because my first 110 from my grandpa way back when has dark uniform scales so that's the image of what a 110 should be in my mind.
Yup. Buck makes a strong argument for dark ebony scales. I was trying to come up with a clever pun about dark coffee/dark scales, but I just couldn't. I need to finish my coffee first.

Like many of you, Buck 110 is my number one choice for any friend who is outdoors oriented - hunter, fisherman, hiker, camper, Guardsman, etc. I used to give Buck 303 Stockman (in addition to Case 63087 Stockman) for HS graduation presents but no dealer in my area stocks the USA made Buck Cadet any longer, they are all off-shore Buck’s (373 I guess) - I don’t gift offshore knives. OH

You can say you like your coffee and your knife dark and strong, referring to the dark coffee and handles and to the strength of both coffee and knife.

I gifted my neighbor a 110. He drove me to the hospital when my blood pressure went low. When he received the knife, he acted like I gave him $1000. First thing he did was drop it on the sidewalk. Put a couple of deep scratches on the bolster. He is handy, so he could buff it out if he wanted to. But I think it is going to be a user for him anyway.
