What are your go to home defense knives? I would have to say one of my go-to's that i would grab first is a cheap elk ridge kukri styled fixed blade. Not saying i would always grab it but its generally the closest one around if needed. I know others here have firearms, but if you had to grab a knife as last ditch which would it be? Pics and elaboration is welcomed. And can we please refrain from statements such as self defense with a knife is a no-no, were talking last ditch all has gone to hell no gun access, no police racing to save you. Just you, your prefered knife (folding or fixed), and some criminal that isn't going away just because you're there and disreguards criminal reprocussions after his endevor.

Edit: i grab the knife first not because of frequent intrusions, but as something to have in hand when checking around the house when stuff seems off. (Been burgurlaized multiple times in the past year and my city's PD doesnt care unless there is a murder or gang activity going on.)

I have 42 of them. I keep them in my Doberman's mouth...

Seriously, she would be the first to intercept an intruder (we've done it in training). When I arrive, assuming I've come without my Glock, it most likely would be whatever FB I'm wearing that day. Probably a smaller one like a BRKT Northstar EDC or an Essential. I don't have edged stuff stuck away in different places for this because I always have my daily carries unless I'm in the shower.

I like that, 42 with the doberman. Didnt expect that.

All my knives are potential home defense knives. I'll use any of them if I have absolutely nothing else to use.

None of my knives are "dedicated" home defense knives. I've got plenty of stuff that keeps my distance from the bad guys for that. Knives are "desperation only."

I assume the purpose of this question is for the hypothetical situation in which those with a home defense firearm can't get to it in time, either because our state in question has those stupid -and unconstitutional- child access prevention laws and we don't have time to fiddle with keys or combination locks, or they're in another part of the house that we simply can't get to in a timely fashion, and instead have to rely on bladed implements.

If such is the case, my go to knife would be my BK9 as it's almost always with me. Should something happen, it's almost never more than an arm's length away from me.

Based on your criteria I can't answer your question as the only way if find myself in the situation you describe would be if I was in jail and the zombies were taking over, then at that point is grab whatever improvised shank or shiv I made while in stir.

Either my Glock 19, AR15, or Mossberg 500. All of them are loaded with really fast knives.

I have a weird knife ~~ Rem.870.00buckshot.18 1/2"blade ~~ I don't believe in getting up & personal if somebody comes through my door but I do want to see them "fly".! You go ahead & use something sharp & I will use dull lead & see who comes out not bleeding or dead.!! Besides they have to get by Caly first ( 3 year old German Shepard ) & that would really make me mad & I believe I would have to empty my "Knife" after that.! When the friendly persons with the Stars on there chest arrive they would say ~~ look at that pile of Hamburger meat.!!**
As the old saying goes --- Never ever bring a Knife to a Gun Fight.!^^

Honestly, it is a combined effort. I go for the snub or my 229 first and this is alongside my bed. Like the feel of the aluminum grips and the balance of this knife.
Frank.

If all the guns are gone? Golf club, then cast iron frying pan, then maybe an umbrella. I wouldn't use a knife in a home defense situation. Everyone gets cut like that. A sword... maybe. Reach is your friend.

In my city, home invasions are usually carried out by multiple assailants. I live by myself and don't really own anything worth dying for. So my "plan" is to stay locked up in my room with my Remington 870 and a couple of handguns, and let them take whatever they want. If they come close to the room I'm in, I'll sling as much lead as humanly possible in their direction.

My dog sleeps with me, he's my early warning system (I don't need him to fight, I need him to wake me up) and he stays close by.

If something goes bump in the night, I won't go to check it out. I'm not a SWAT officer and don't really know how to clear a house. Oh, and "no police racing to save you", is the usual down here. In fact, the guys breaking in are probably policemen, former policemen or work for the local police captain.

Gerber Mark II.

It is not my "go to" knife for anything, it's something I bought in my youth in the late 70s that has been in a drawer pretty much ever since. I have other means of self defense that are superior, but the conditions outlined in the original post imply that I only have access to a knife. That's the only one I own that would be potentially useful as a weapon, unless you count kitchen knives and pocket-sized slipjoint folders.

For me, it would generally be whatever folder is on me-I always have a folder for basic tasks but it could be a weapon in a pinch. If I'm wearing street clothes, its usually a SOG trident. In my running/workout clothes, its a Spyderco Pacific Salt. I live in an apartment with a loft and there is a machete on the wall so that would be my go to blade upstairs. In my nightstand I have a RAT-3 fairly accessible. I don't really have big fighting knives. Anything I would consider in that role is SD on the street where discretion is a priority as well.

Short answer to OP's question: machete

In reality: .45ACP for me (or .38spcl if I'm packin light), 9mm for the wife

I don't have a dedicated home defense knife. And in a defense situation I'd go for one of my guns before I went for a knife, though if you want to play devil's advocate and say that for some reason my firearms aren't available, I've got around 3 dozen machetes in my room, as well as a pira from Traditional Filipino Weapons, and a couple of Windlass Steelcrafts short swords, so...take your pick. If you want to limit it specifically to knives, and not swords or machetes, I guess I'd go with one of my big Ontario knives, something from their Spec Plus line, or their Mk3 Trench Knife, or something like that.

KaBar has a nice home on top of the dresser along with a flashlight. Bump in the Night Bag is close by and contains, a much Brighter flashlight, a Buck 471 very sharp drop point knife with a rubber handle, and my trusty Witness 9mm if needed.

My longest knife is a survive gso 10 so that would be it if guns are out of the picture. Maybe my stihl farm boss.
