I like to carry my new #55 on the weekends when I am out and about and especially to church and back. Sometimes I'll work it in my weekly EDC rotation, but I use my knives pretty hard and it's just too purty to muss up. Today I'm going shoe shopping and the wife and I might take in a movie and eat some dinner out. I'm worried trying on shoes it might slip outa my pocket so a modern is getting clipped in today. Sad but, true, but sometimes the moderns win!

I hear ya. I have one GEC and its too pretty to risk so it is a Sunday only knife.

If you do take in a movie, the little woman and I just saw the new Superman flick last night and we both greatly enjoyed it.

Get some good shoes!

Great! We can't decide between that and Star Trek. I wanted to see Star Trek in iMax but it's out now so I dunno.

I have to replace a pair of blown out Merrells. I've worn this same model for years and this is the first time I've had a blowout. Might try to find some US made shoes this time around!

I'm thinking of picking up a #15 I won't mind beating on a little bit. KSF has a nice one I've been eyeballing...

Get a Yellow Sodbuster Jr. CV. Cheap, good slicer, and you can carry it without worrying about it too much...... or you could get a pocket sheath with a clip...... or a white owl with a bail and lanyard it off.....

Lots of options.

In some 50 years of carrying knives of all types, the only one which has actually disappeared from my pocket had a clip.

The clip snags something and knocks the knife out! I had that happen too many times. Gotta love it when that titanium clip gouges the paint off your car down to bare metal too!!

I lost a buck 703 out of my pocket offroading years ago with my buddy, but that was back pocket carry and my own stupidity.

Forgive me if I'm missing something, but I thought Merrells were US made?

I say, enjoy your GEC regardless. Can't spend your life hanging on the what-ifs.

Consider your traditional card revoked.

I can't remember the last time I lost a knife, traditional or otherwise. I've had a few stolen though. :grumpy:

I just went to a movie last week with my GEC 76 Outlaw Jack in my watch pocket. Didn't lose it but I do tend to check my pocket a million times especially if it's a knife I really love. Who am I kidding I really love all of them that's why I can't ever sell or trade any of them off!

I have scratched my car to bare metal like richstag mentioned with my modern folders twice now! Really ticked me off.

Only knives I have ever had pinched were modern ones. I think thieving kids don't look twice at a boring old traditionals but jump on a tacticool that they can stab someone with. I no longer carry modern ones. Two hand opening or bust!

Funny, I do a watch pocket knife check about 100 times a day.... I thought I was the only one. I have recently gone to carrying traditonals full time and I love it. I like many here have had more problems losing modern folders than traditonals.

I tend to check my pocket constantly when carrying something like the GEC also. Funny though, after carrying this Benchmade Contego all day I haven't checked on it once (well okay, I just did).

I picked up a Case Sodbuster Jr. at Lowe's while I was out. Nice little knife. I wear cargo shorts and flops almost year round which is why I worry about loosing a nice traditional doing things like trying on shoes or sitting in a theater, etc.

But this Case may change that. Never scratched my truck with a knife although I have with a belt buckle. And I have lost one out of a pocket, but not a clipped one. That bandana trick is a good one. I'll have to remember that!

Oh and Star Trek was great. Heck even the wife liked it!

Wrap it in a bandana and carry that dude!

Obviously you have not had an emergency sneeze, used the bandanna for its' original intended purpose, and launched a very expensive custom 20' across concrete:eek: I have, and can no longer recommend this practice:D Very hard on nice covers! Bolsters too!

Brad,
I don't know about your allergy treatment...but you should follow Carl's advice on carrying two bandanas :p

Back to the OP:
we're all different, and we all choose how (and if) to carry our knives. Yet, in my experience, the fear of losing a knife is just a matter of habit.
Try carrying it once (with a bandana, a sheath, pouch, whatever)...you will touch your pocket every minute. The second day, not that often. After a couple weeks, you will be fine carrying it even when you go shoe shopping :)
