Goin' to AZ....Yeeeeeeha!

Phil, you'll love Sedona, an awesome place. Scottsdale is just too touristy for me. Great galleries and shops, though. Leave the credit cards home! Make sure you drive up Oak Creek Canyon in Sedona.

After almost 60 years in NJ, I can't believe how much I love Utah. This really is close to the old West, cowboys and all. My wife loves it when we're out and run into a couple of cowboys herding cattle with their trusty dog.

My favorite sign is when we leave Utah to go to the Grand Canyon, "Beer, Ammo and Lottery Tickets".

I just have to comment....Sedona isn't touristy????? What about the wall to wall stores selling indian jewelry at 50% off?

Just kidding. I live near Prescott and I love the drive through Jerome to Sedona. Heck, Sedona even has a built in vibrator. (Om mani padme hum)

Would you care to elaborate?

I've been looking at a lot of websites about Sedona, and getting more an more hyped. Here's one,

"The USA WEEKEND'S Annual Travel Report rates Sedona as the most beautiful place in America. Rand McNally calls the views from Sedona through Oak Creek Canyon as a Top 5 Scenic Drive in America."

Yeah, Sedona does have it's share of stores. Never went there that it hasn't cost me! :) Good thing is that escape is only minutes away!.

Phill, it probably is one of the most stunning places you'll ever visit. Look into a Pink Jeep Tour for a taste of the outback. I've not done one but several friends really enjoyed theirs.

Take alot of digital storage!

Check out the VORTEX. Hummmmmmm.:)

I'm sure it is an absolutely beautiful place, but that photo has been beaten to a pulp with the photoshop hammer

I wanna see PhilL in his new shirt!

Why Wally, the mountains don't glow where you are?
Yeah they did push the Saturation slider passed the believable range didn't they? I promise you I didn't touch it in PS, not that I'm above that sort of thing.

Now, the webcam pic i did help a bit. ;)

The mountains don't glow, but some of the pidgeons do.
At least that's what the neighbor's dog told me.

You be careful out there.
You look like a nice guy & can dress the part, but as soon as you speak they'll know you aint local :D :D

But throw in a "yonder" now and then just for fun :D

My wife and I got home safe and sound last night, the trip was great.
Gus, better than I expected.

We got there late Thursday night and checked into the hotel. My wife was very impresed that you could open the windows, (she's easily impressed).

Friday we went on a tour of Taliesin West, Frank Lloyd Wright's winter home and school of architecture. It was simply amazing. I've always liked the photos I've seen of his work, but to be in his home and see his desk where he worked is not to be missed. Around every corner there is something that's surprising and beautiful. If I ever make it back I would like to see it at sunset.

We couldn't see it at sunset this time because we had a party to go to. At 5PM buses arrived to take about 75 of us to the MacDonald Ranch for a western theme party. The buses dropped us at the trail head where hay wagons took us to the campsite. "Tequila Sheila" greeted us with shot glasses and a bottle of tequila, the kind of girl that just wouldn't take no for an answer, not that I said no. Campfires, a singing cowboy on horseback, open bar, hors d'oeuvres while we watched to sun go down.

We then retired to the barn for dinner, a country western band and line dancing. As soon as you walked into the barn there were a couple of young ladies that had a camera, lights and background setup to take your picture. They had hats and clothes and props to help you look more period.

Here's the pic of my wife and I, hats and guns aren't ours.

It was a fun night.

Next morning it was back on the buses for a two hour drive upto Sedona. Here we all split up and spent the day as we wanted. My wife and I did a littl window shopping and then decided to take a a Jeep tour and see the Oak Canyon Drive as suggested earlier. The views were spetacular. Our driver Mario was a native and was a wealth of info. We could have easily spent a week just touring the area around Sedona.

I've seen tons of pics online of Sedona and I don't think that my personal pics can compare, but I think you might find this pic interesting. While walking around window shopping my wife needed to use the restroom. We saw this sign for restrooms with an arrow pointing down this narrow alley between two buildings. This was the view from the end of the alley by the restrooms.

I've heard of a room with a view, but never a restroom with a view.

Phil, sounds like you and your wife had a great experience! Time to start vacationing in the West, but be careful it's addictive. I should know.;)

Heya Tex..... that's some purty young filly y'all are hooked up with. :)

Glad to hear your enjoyed your visit to Arizona. It's beautiful country. Many people are unable to appreciate the beauty of the desert - but it's there if you are open to it.

Love the shirt! and kerchief......

Does this mean you might come back out West to visit?

Looks like you had fun and with a spectacular view from the restroom to boot!

But I must say...you look a little nervous in the photo.
:D

Judy, you're not going to believe this, but I was a pretty good looking guy when I was younger. In fact that purty young thing picked me up in a bar. Fact of the matter is she just aged better than I did.

Judy & Win, I'm going to make it back out West every chance I get. I was pre-sold on it. Of course next time it probably won't be a freebee. What do you think it would cost to fly in 75 people, put them up in a hotel for three days, plus the buses and the Western Party...etc?

Wally, yeah I'm nervous, you can't see but I was going for my Colt when she got the drop on me. There's no doubt about it, I gotta loose some weight.

I'll be putting up some more pics in a bit.

Post #29 above spelled out the itinerary of our Arizona trip. I've put up the photos that I took on my album site.

To view them, click on my "Will Work 4 Knives" logo, on the Gallery page scroll down to the ARIZONA album. The best way to view them is to click on the Slideshow button. Enjoy.
