Going backpacking for 3 weeks...

Well added ming,
I've never heard of the Columbia nylon trekking shirts. Any chance of a little more info about these?

No worries Dartanyon. I'd noticed a few fieldies in the Pilbara wearing nylon shirts and remember thinking 'Crikey that looks hot - how can they stay cool in those - they looked like bad '70's bodyshirts. Then before the Larapinta I mentioned these to my mate who was organising the walk and he said "absolutely not -you must wear cotton; nylon will stick to your skin and you will fry!!"

Then on the walk, every experienced trekker was walking past us in Nylon gear. I've since got a couple of them. I like these....

Then again Thalestin hasn't defined what kind of backpacking he'll be doing - it might be just Bondi beach backpackers hostel style backpacking - in which case he should just up-end his pack, tip the contents on to the floor and re-fill it with condoms.....:)

hey guys, sorry for the late response. Ill try to answer some questions. Anyways, me and my bro will be heading north from sydney along the coast. We will be doing some shorter trips out into the wilderness but for the most part we will be closer to civilization--Im not experienced enough to do 3 weeks out there =D (most ive done is 5 days hehe). In any case, thanks for some of the great suggestions. And i will grab myself a hat UUI suppose. I never had any problems since i have a lot of hair (which is curly too ) but a good hat might majke hiking more comfortable--ill probably get a hat when im there since ill be spending a couple days in sydney before we head out.

Thanks again, thal

Make sure you get to Byron bay mate. If you are just travelling around with the occasional bush sojourn, then the gear is not so critical. Do your homework though - the Aussie bush can be pretty hostile, even close to the cities.

Buy a good pair of boardshorts in Sydney - if you stay close to the coast you'll be living in these.

Ming, fell off my chair laughing .... the condoms make for water storage too :)
Ok the columbia shirt was not quite what I was expecting, I'm wondering about movement restrictions/flexability?

Thalestin, the direction your travelling is my backyard ... let me know if I can help. Water, maps/gps, hat ... virtually every town has an overnight supermarket. Blue mountains is one of my favourites along with Barrington. Byron ... yep ... its a culture thing.
I envy your adventure ... all the way to The Daintree and beyond ...

Small butane stove for brewing up,essential for me anyway!

Some say leave out the razor, are they SERIOUS? You would end up bearded:eek:

Get some diarrhea pills, you don't want an outbreaks of the runs in the city, outback maybe....Enjoy your trip mate:thumbup:

Haven't shaved in four years. Trimmed a lot, combed a couple times a day. Nothing wrong with having a beard. I'd say more, but this is supposed to be a g-rated forum. ;) :D
