Going Clipless!!!

So far I like carrying the Mini-Manix in the pouch.
It's almost as easy to access as when clipped in the pocket, and it does not feel too heavy riding on the belt.

I can't stand carrying a knife loose in my pocket...one of my problems with traditional knives like the stockman.
Heck, I even carry my Swiss Army knife in a small belt pouch.

Hmm, the Mini Manix feels a little bulky in my pocket, I might try carrying in a belt pouch as well.

I agree with you about carrying a loose knife in your pocket though, I can't stand it. Even my Gerber LST, which has the slimmest profile of all my knives feels cumbersome when I'm walking with it just sitting loose in the pocket.
Neckers, clips, or pouches are a must.

I don't need people constantly asking "What is that clipped to your pocket?" and then freaking out when they find out that it is a pocket knife.
I have never ever been asked that question by anyone. Is that weird? I've been carrying for many years and no one has noticed or bothered to ask what I had clipped in my pocket.

As far as no clip, I agree that most knives are more comfortable without the clip. For me, I feel that the loss in ergonomics is a fair trade off to the ease of carry and deployment. If a knife has a clip that is really uncomfortable, I don't buy it or get rid of the knife quickly if I did.

Unless I'm carrying IWB I prefer to carry clipless. I don't need people constantly asking "What is that clipped to your pocket?" and then freaking out when they find out that it is a pocket knife.

I'd add to that, but I agree with every word and find I have nothing to add.

I ended taking my clip off of my Paramilitary, and I added a helix lanyard to it (was a pain to get paracord in the hole). I have to say, i like clipless, but I am probably going back in a week or so.

Haaa funny. I go "clipless" all the time. My EDC's consist of a SAK Farmer, Case CV sodbuster, and new to inventory a Case Saddlehorn. Every once in a while I get crazy with a Opinel #7 however;) :D

Thanks tarmix! I am glad to see that people have realized that knives don't necessarily need clips!

Some knives don't even come with a clip!

Its a good thing.

If everybody comes to the same conclusion about tantos...now we're talking.;)

Todays carry: Clip-less, carbon steel, German Eye Smooth Bone MiniTrapper.

I guess that I am from the "other" school as I have clips on all my knives that came so equiped. Now, I do not clip any of my knives to my pockets or belt, I have a rather large hand and find that especially with my Mini-Grips and Leeks I need the clips in order to fill up my palm and allow me to better operate the thumb studs. Anyone else in this school?

Yes, I prefer to pocket carry, but feel I need the clip for a better grip.

I have a nice collection of clips. On a book shelf. :D.

No stone in my shoes. Clipless. As i'm a lazy guy, my hands are always in my pockets, close to my knife.

dantzk.

besides destroying the top of my pockets I love having clips on my blades. I can't stand a knife getting sideways in my pocket.

And I've never had anyone ask what is clipped to my pocket. I find it hard to beleive there's people out there so shut off to the world they wouldn't know a pocket knife when they see one. I also find it hard to beleive anyone would have a problem with it. I know it happens, I just find it hard to beleive.

You'd be surprised. I was hanging out with my girlfriend and two girls who we both knew. Some point during the conversation my girlfriend mentioned my affinity for knives and how I love sharpening them, then I said hold on I'll show you two something. I started reaching in my pocket and before I had my Buck Hartsook out they were saying "You've got a knife?" like it was the most surprising thing in the world. It didn't scare them away or anything, but they found it very odd that I'd keep one on me like that. Then again I've never met anyone that EDC's any type of knife outside of my dead grandfather and my friend who I got into knives.

LOL that's funny right there. I guess living in the south most people are used to that kinda thing. I was inventorying ammo the other day in the living room so I had 2 hand guns and bullets all over the place when my mother in law stopped by. I didn't even bother to pick it up, but I told the wife I was sorry for having that stuff out when she came by. lol wife said "why? who cares?"

The BM Presidio and the Spyderco Paramilitary feels absolutely great in the hand without a clip.

But I don't like my knives to go free in the pocket, nor carry a belt sheath. So the clip stays in :(

Maybe a pocket sheath will work, any one knows if I can buy one?

====================
Sorry for my english :o

Most gun shows have boxes of them at some of the knife tables, you can buy bulk from SMKW.

Sorry in advance for the shameless plug, but I've been working on this problem for some time. What about this ....

That's a neat rig, Joe.

I often EDC various Benchmades, but I always have some kind of slipjoint on me. In fact, I'm carrying the Benchmades less and less and moving to small fixed blades in addition to the slippies.

I almost always take the clip off. The only knife I carry that still has a clip on is the Strider PT, I don't clip to my pocket, but it seems more comfortable that way. All my other knives that came with clips, get them removed prior to use. Steven

For normal household cutting chores I don’t mind a clip. On a knife that’s going to be used harder than normal I don’t like them. I got a Spyderco Chinook III as a hard use folder, the clip didn’t stay for long. I tried to use it with the clip for about a month but I got tired of having sores on my hand. It’s now carried in a belt pouch.
The only clip I have that I don’t mind too much for hard use is the one on the Spyderco SS ATR. It’s wide and rounded, and actually improves ergonomics on that knife (it would be too thin without it). The next best thing so far is the wire clip on the Caly 3, again, it’s all rounded and doesn’t have any points to dig in. It does seem a bit flimsy though.

I like to carry knife in a belt pouch. So I look at my l. sebenza, and take off it's clip...but after several days, I put it back. I have do it for 2 or 3 times.

I took the clip off because it is more comfortable holding without the clip. I put the clip back because when I use knife, I need to clip it on the pocket to wait for next cut.( you know what I mean:yawn: )

I have never had but 2 knives (both alox SAK's) that did not have clips. So i never thought about not having them. Well you gentlemen inspired me and I took the clip off my D2 griptilian. It's very comfortable. I'm going to try it thanks guys.
