I have been doing a ton of reading and can't wait to get started. Still need to order some steel.

However, I decided to take one of the Nicholson files that was a bit rough and try to Anneal it. I went to Lowes and bought a 40#bag of wood pellets and 2 bags of charcoal.

I got the bed of coals going and grabbed the file. Then I remembered that I had an old Stihl chainsaw bar and wondered if they work for knives? I did a quick google and saw that some people have done it.

Went back outside and there is a light snow falling. This is from a few days ago.

It has warmed up and is a cozy 22F outside.

So, I had shoveled out the fire pit and laid down some kindling, a bed of charcoal, then more charcoal, added wood pellets, and more charcoal.

Here is the bar and steal.

So that is it so far. Going out later to add another layer of coal and pellets. I should go get some beer and stand around the fire. Ran out of beer during the football games Sunday.

Any opinions on the Chainsaw Bar???

Chainsaw bar is likely not high carbon steel. Nicholson files can work but, I'd save yourself the trouble on the chainsaw bar.
