Going long for moose

Congrats on the kill, nice shot. Great weight retention on that bullet. How much did that moose weigh?


Love the knife! Very simple, very functional pattern. How did the edge hold up? I'd like to see some specifics on in when you get a chance.

I didn't take the moose to a butcher, but from past moose I've shot I would guess it was around 435lbs for the 4 quarters skinned out.

The knife is made from 1/8" 1084 and is the only hollow ground blade I've made. All my other knives are either flat grind or convex. The edge held up well for field dressing and skinning the moose. After a quick touch up on the ceramic stone and strop it's shaving sharp again.

Man, that is a LOT of meat and a heck of a challenge for any knife. I hear moose is good eating, but I've never had it. Not many of them running around South Texas... :D But moose hunting is definitely on my list.
