Going on a trip to U.S.A. what beckers to purchase.

About handles of 11 i have long but narrow hands, so I like small but fatter handles.
I have medium sized hands and here's what the BK-11 appears in hand with the Micarta scales on.

Hope you enjoy your Beckers when you do have them in hand at home!

Look good but I will probably have to wrap the micarta with paracord to get it larger but the lengh seens okay

Bom dia! If I had that much right now I am likely to get the 4 and 9. Then either 11 and 14. A 16, gotta have a drop point shorty. I hear barbeques are great down in Brazil, so I think a 5 too if there is any room left :D

Happy spending man! And it might be a good idea to double up on the 2, just saying :D

I'd go with the 14 and the Zytel handles if I were you. Most people seem to like the handle of the 14 much better. I'd also go with a 4 or 9 and a tweener.

Erd

I'd have to say 5, 9 & 14 or 16. 14 with handles is great for every day carry but the 16 has more utility in the field / jungle. As always, it depends on how you intend to use them.

If I were you, I would purchase one for me. ;)

Seriously though, if it were me, I would go with at least a BK2 (which you have), a BK16, and a BK4.

Brazilian bushes, too much for a light machete too litle for a full axe. The BK-4 would most likely meet that.

Battoning wood and camp preparation. By already owned BK-2 would do that or maybe a BK-16.

I love the BK-3 design so it's in my list whatever you guys say. It's so Tactcool it hurts.

The BK-11 would be and EDC bag knife that meets street use in Brazil of 10 cm (4 inches)

Whatever else you get, you MUST come home with a 14, if not 2. It's such an improvment handle wise over the 11, it's unbelieveable. The 11 has a nice handle, don't get me wrong, but the 14 has a better handle.
You might want to throw a Remora in there too.

I will go with the 11, then later I would see if i am disappointed or not. It's just that i LOVE micarta.

Just got a 14 and a 17 and they complement my 2 quite well. My 4 has gotten a lot of use time and is a blast to use. I may be biased, but I would recommend that combo. Good to have to you hear, Carlos. Hope you enjoy yourself.

I'm glad you're choosing an 11... I like the fact that it's an entirely Becker-designed knife, which is weird because I'm a huge Izula fan. You'll like it.

But here's the real issue; who the heck thinks it's a good idea that a 21-year-old Brazilian coming to Vegas of all places to celebrate his birthday is going to get a huge pile of knives? Haven't you people seen HANGOVER??!? Bad things, man... bad things!

Have you considered the BK5?

I might be misunderstanding your comment regarding micarta. You can get micarta handles for, I believe, all the Beckers not just some models.

To go with the BK11 and add the most versatility, I'd recommend a BK9, BK5, and BK16. Maybe that will go a little over the $300...but if you can swing that much, you've got a really great collection of Becker knives that can handle any task.

Well my combo will bi quite similar. 14 and 11 are twins. I'll get the 4(it would be my main). And 17 16 is just a a taste preference for drop points...

Never tought of that, THAT way.

It's just the 11 x 14.
Will get one pair of micarta handles for the others.

I don't know, its just that the tools for bushcraft here are diferent, and the 3 is going in for the look/ride. The five I don't get how it would be used here even tought it's suberb look, maybe the 15 over the 16.

The 11 is fine, I have the 11 and 14...I prefer the 14, but the 11 is still a fine knife, I have large hands so it's mainly a handle choice, but even I find the 11 pretty comfy for EDC tasks. If it's a matter of micarta though, the ESEE Izula micarta will fit the 14, and it's cheaper then the 11 micarta...I bought mine for around 20$ shipped.

The 17, 15 and 16 are all capable...like you said it's a matter of personal preference in blade shape. I am in a bromance with my 17, but I like the 16 and 15 too. Too be honest the FFG 16 will slice & dice a hair better then my 17, but I think the 17 is more robust (slightly) with it's sabre grind...would feel better batoning with it over the 16.

The 4 excells at the medium-duty tasks that you describe.... the 9 WILL outchop it in heavy stuff...but the 4 is very versatile and from the sound of it your local vegetation is tailor-made to be whacked by the Machax.

I say all this just to ease your mind, people on here tend to shout out what THEY love rather then what YOU want/need...so I didn't want you doubting your choices.

Except the 3...I just can't support your choice on that hideous thing! LMAO the only KaBar becker I don't own, and for a reason :D

Oooooooooo, this is a good thread.

Well, welcome to the US, Carlos, first off.

Welcome to the Becker forum, second.

You will most certainly want to get you a BK9, BK16, and a BK14 or a BK11. Those are the main staples of the line, and with that, you can begin your conquest of Brazil.

Let me know once you get it taken over, we will work on bringing down the price of US made knives, for starters, and begin the importation of Brazilian made hammocks en masse.

Good to have you around, brother.

Moose

+1 to everything said here, especially the hammocks.... Brazilians know hammocks. :)

I think your on the right track. The machax seems to be a good candidate. Heres a couple of pics of the 16 next to the 11 and 14. As you can see, I put the Izula micarta on the 14 and I love the way it feels in hand. Good luck with the trip and stay away from those strip clubs or theylle take all your $$$$$ haha
