I finally decided to take the plunge and buy myself a Busse after being a Cold Steel guy for quite some time. The knife will be an EDC blade that will double as a defensive weapon. I've decided I REALLY like the looks of the nmsfno, so i've been searching the for sale adds seeing if anything stands out. This knife, although being carried ED will also be used hiking/camping and it will see quite a bit of use. I'll be buying an IWB kydex for it as well. I really like a bigger/ruggged blade How good of a chopper/workhorse should I expect from this model? I'd like to try and balance practicality with ruggedness. To be perfectly honest, if someone here can show me how I could EDC a battle mistress IWB, i'd probably be interested in that. If i'm impressed as it seems all of you are, hopefully I can start building up a collection.

I also had my eye on the Tank Buster, but the blade is a little short for what I want it for.

Anything I should know in regards to sharpening? I'll state it up front that although i'm a machinist, I can't sharpen a knife to save my life. I was considering picking up a spyderco sharpmaker or something similar to help me avoid destroying my edge.

the NMSFNO is a great model. it's a great chopper with it's full convex grind. comes with a pretty nice factory edge too. at .25" thick and that convex grind it's solid.

You're going to love the nmsfno....its one of my all time favorite knives.

Congrats on the switch to Busse.

230grains Congrats on moving to busse.

I've been there.

The cold steel thing.

After I bought my first busse (nmsfno) all other knives take a back seat. It will do all you want and ask for more. If you've ever had or still have a cs trailmaster THROW IT AWAY! You won't need it anymore. nmsfno is a great blade I have two. If you find a Busse battle mistress GO FOR IT! You won't be sorry.:)

congrats! busse knives are very good. i sometimes carry my ad.

how do you edc a 8" fixed blade in the waistband?:D

Easily. 1911 govt open carried. kahr 9mm in a pocket holster, two spare 1911 mags weak side, folder left hand pocket, big ol 8 inch knife in an IWB sheath at around 4 oclock. :) Not even going to get into the other junk I carry, light, phone etc..

Nice carry, I take it you don't live in a busy city. I can't imagine walking down Montgomery St. in SF with that on my waist. The looks one would get. Wow.

Anyway, you'll find as we all do at some point that nobody owns one Busse. You'll probably get the NMSFNO and then want to see a satin blade, and go on the quest for the NMSFNOLE, only to want to try a smaller EDC and you MUST have a battle mistress too. Then you can't decide if you want the fatter FFBM or the longer NMFBM. So you then shell out for the NMFBMLE. But you gotta have the small ones too right, Wardens, Duty's, Mean Streets. My point is, just figure out several that look appealing. Buy them in the For Sale section. Figure out which ones you like the best, or the ones you can't live without, and sell the rest. Welcome to the madness. No regrets.

They're all going to be super tough, but a lot of people like to sharpen them beyond "factory" sharp.

Welcome to Bladeforums and the Busse universe.

Look up Mike Sastre, he is a master at making IWB sheaths for big knives.

Go Busse, no turning back, although I too have a Trailmaster and still love it. The SFNO (v2) is relatively new. Have a look for a Steel Heart or a Battle Mistress then look no more. :D

I'll get a battle mistress when someone thinks of a way to conceal it in a tshirt and some carharts.

Welcome to the Busse madness. There is no comparison between Busse and Cold Steel. You'll be thrilled you made the switch!!

Yup, if your about 7ft.3 that NMSFNO will make a great edc, good luck with that , it is a great knife, i beat the hell outa mine.

you will love the busse knives no matter which one you get, they are awesome knives, they are excellent hard use knives and when you get done using them, they are still collectors and you will have big fun while you collect them...

Rover, Carries a FBM IWB sometimes. or a SFNO, or a NMSFNO, or a FSH even. I have not seen him try a NMFBM yet though.

He actually pulls it off pretty good.

Maybe PM him & see how it worked out.

I carry handguns IWB everyday, I find the 3 o clock position to be best.

Kind of where your hip pivots, to work best & to be the most comfortable.

E-mail me if you have any sheath questions.

I also have NMSFNO up for sale if you are still looking (not spaming just trying to help the new guy)
