I'm going to visit Utah for my first time this August. We'll be going to Moab and Park City from what I know.

Anything I should know about the area? Specific places of interest? Things I might not think to prepare for that I should be aware of (We'll be hiking mountains they said)? Any good knife shops? :D

I dont know but hippies ride up it under the ski lifts on bikes in extremely low gears.

Kinda fun to watch.

In Moab you have the La Sals 12,000+ ft. peaks, lots of canyons/slickrock. Arches National Park also is nearby, very cool. There could be some knive shops, but I dought it. If you get a chance checkout Moab Brewery. Lots of things to do in Moab: canyons, rock climbing, hiking, jeeping, mountain biking. Negro Bill Canyon is a very nice hike, checkout Fisher Towers, you can climb it or hike around it, The Titan is also in the area. Have fun.

I've never been to Park City, but Moab is a great place! As was mentioned, Arches NP is a real treat, with great views from the road as well as lots of trails to explore that lead to some amazing features.

I mostly know Moab from mountain biking, of which there is a vast amount. If you're into biking but don't want to take a bike, you can rent at the local shop (last time I was there, anyway.)

Good trails are the Behind the Rocks area, Porcupine Rim (highly recommended), and a bunch of others. Ask at the shop -- they'll know the good places.

Keep in mind, August will be VERY hot (it was 103° when I just checked). Take lots of water/eloctrolytes with you, and plan on traveling carefully. Bikers have died when they got off the trail in the summer and were out too long.

If you have a 4x4 or a dirt bike, there are miles of rough roads and back country to explore. Very cool place! I wish I could get back there.

I go to Moab every March to climb. The entire area is amazing. Be sure to check out the Fisher Towers. It's like visiting an alien landscape.

Be sure to have breakfast at the Jailhouse Cafe at least once. Moab Diner does a great traditional diner breakfast, too. You won't mind a little fat in your meal if you'll be hiking all day.

Plan ahead for what you really want to do. With Canyonlands and Arches NP right there, it'd be easy to kill a week just hiking.

Bring beer from another state!

I've been to Moab once or twice, It's cool. If you can make it to Maple Canyon or Fairview, it's worth it. They are both down in Sanpete county where I grew up. Take me with you (work permitting) and I'll provide a good dutch oven dinner. :)

Have fun and please share pictures when you get back!
