Hi, guys,

I'm going for vacations to Florianopolis - it's a big seacoast city in the south of Brazil - and, since I don't have any specific knife or folder for the occasion, I have the hard task to decide what to take ;)

I want to take a folder with clip, since I plan to wear it all the time, including the sea.

My options are, SS Harpy, SS Endura, S30V Millie, BM806, 805, Al Mar Sere, among others...

What would you take, if you'd go to the beach ? (Doesn't need to be in the list above...)

Thanks in advance,

Andre Tiba - Brazil

Spyderco Salt has a special steel that is made to stand strong up against sea water. That would probably be a good option. ;)

An 18" Kukri, hanging from the waste strap of my bikini speedos. :barf:

:D :D

I just cracked myself up...

hmmmmm....last time I went to the beach I took a howard vielle wasp. The time before that it was a spyderco Jess Horn lightweight (my wedding knife) in Maui.

The Spyderco Salt would be an excellent choice, since is was MADE for use in and around water.

on the lines of the salt, the pacific salt. Endura size with that groovy h1 steel and a esrrated edge. Its useful, will do sd in a pinch and cheap so if you loose it or it gets stolen or confiscated no big deal.

have fun

The spyderco "salt" line or a knife with a fairly open handle(ie the spydie military) so you an rinse it out good when you get to fresh water.

We've had similar threads before, including which knife to best fight a shark with.

The obvious answer would be a cutlass, perhaps Cold Steel is still making 'em.

And then you can wear a life jacket, and a life preserver around your waist, and an extra thick military surplus helmet, as well as wrapping yourself with tinfoil to help defeat the suns evile cancer causing rays.

Using this method is a 100% positive method of birth control, as well as ensuring you have plenty of elbow room, no matter how crowded the beach may be. :D

On a more serious note, I'd vote the Millie out of the ones you'd listed. stain resistant enough for all practical purposes, and light enough to not be pullin' yer shorts down. If I were to suggest "other" I'd say Endura, just because many times when knives and water mix, knives tend to lose- be that from rust or being sacrificed to the Gods of the deep.

And incidentally, yes I am jealous as hell sitting here freezing my ass off in my Alaskan winter wonderland with my five hours of daylight. :D

Have fun, eh?

Any of those would be generous gifts for the metal-detecting beach-combers. :)

Sorry, I just can't seem to take this thread seriously. I can't imagine taking a knife to the beach...

You don't take a knife to the beach? Gosh, how do you fend off attacks by pirates on inflatable rafts?

Of the knives you listed I'd take the S30v Millie. The perfect beach knife would have to be a TNT or some other talonite/stellite and Titanium knife.

my ss pe 'fly does well with water, kydex rig on my neck 24/7.

in the last 8 days I've used the gym at phyio 4 times, sweating heavy for over an hour each time... blade needs a little work right now, but I was seeing what a week of sweating did to it without oil.

My thoughts precisely - and I live on the beach. The Salt is better if you are spending extended time in the sea. I've just got in from a Barramundi fishing trip in the Kimberley (NW Oz). We stayed salty, wet and dirty for 4 days. The millie worked fine and became the most popular knife for cleaning the fish (after someone lost the fishing knife over the side - I wasn't diving in to get it with all of the prehistoric predators lurking around).

I had gotten a Camillus Simonch mini talon for rafting and am happy with its cutting ability and salt water corrosion resistance.
