I'm currently in the middle of the most extraordinary knife purchase I've ever been through. I finally decided to wake up and buy a Canal Street Half Moon Trapper in one of their mica pearl handles. Unfortunately, they only made a few of these back in 2009 and they seem to have all reached private hands. Bladeforums user 2Dead, who has two of these, suggested that I get in touch with Mike Siegel at Droppointhunter.com. Boy am I glad that I did. Although not listed in-stock Mike dug through his catacombs and found a few for me. I bought his last remaining Windwalker-styled one. Mike shipped it out to me with some free goodies.
I open the box and the thing is absolutely gorgeous. Except for a tiny little crack across the scale. Now, I know it will be impossible to replace this, so I ask Mike if he thinks that it'll be structurally sound, since the crack is barely noticeable. He apologizes up and down and says he thinks it would be fine, but gives me the option to go through Canal Street's customer service (in which case I would expect to receive a different knife) or buy a similar one off him for a ridiculous discount which would no doubt cause him to lose money. I e-mail Canal Street just to ask if they see any problems with me shooting some Krazy Glue into the crack. They reply back and say "Send it in!" Turns out, they planned for the future and the lifetime warranty and kept extra blanks on-hand of the Windwalker pearl mica just in case someone has a scale issue.
How cool is that?
Thank you 2Dead, Mike Siegel, and the people at Canal Street Cutlery!!!!!!
