I would say to get a Spyderco Para2, Sage 1 or Sage 3, or Spyderco Manix 2. You can get the regular with the 154cm hollow ground blade and black G-10 or you can get the light weight FFG with blue FRCP scales and CTS-BD1 blade steel and wire pocket clip.
All would make good general purpose EDC knives around your $100 price range.
But if you'd want cheaper(Around $50 - $60) but still great, the Spyderco Native is hard to beat with it's thicker handles, great ergos, simple yet good build, and s30v steel.
And if you can add the cash you could get the updated Native 5 in s35vn steel, updated lock, and G-10 handles.

Kershaw Composite(D2 Steel Cutting Edge) or higher steel blades are always great too.
It doesn't have to be composite or upgraded steel because Kershaw makes great knives as it is, but I would recommend them most.
Some Kershaw knives that would really fit the bill and are just great knives would be:
Kershaw Speedform 2 - Around $75 and has Elmax steel.
Kershaw Blur - s30v
Kershaw G-10/s30v Leek
Kershaw Composite Leek - Stainless Leek with a composite blade that has a D2 cutting edge.
Kershaw JYD II - Composite
Kershaw Rake
All of these knives have non-composite or s30v versions other than the Rake. Check out Kershawguy, he's a seller here through the forums that often has blem models for very cheap. I know you can get a JYD II Composite for $55 and the Rake for $59.

Good luck with your knife hunt!

I'm in love with my Endura4 (FFG) full flat grind in VG10...That and a little Buck or Case tradional in my front pocket and I'm ready to go.
