Good All-Around Rig

I've had Bics almost refuse to light (really tiny flame after several strikes) when left in the outer tent in Scotland in Winter. I've had similar experience with gas canisters that are only butane. That's why I make sure to buy isobutane/propane mix now.

The same trip killed my watch and my car battery. 'twas worth it though - the Cuillins were amazing!

Just to be pedantic. The Ideal Gas Law with gas constant R assumed to be virtually temperature independent for the temp range considered. ** PV=nRT ** For a given, sealed volume of gas such as a butane lighter, V, n & R are fixed so that as T(emperature on an absolute scale such as Kelvin => K=C+273.15 or Rankin => R=F+459.67) decreases, so does P(ressure). Since P varies w/ T absolute, the change in P is not as much as most think BUT as the gas closely approaches its liquifaction temp (-0.5 C or 272.65 K for butane) its pressure drops markedly as it goes from gas to liquid.
As Thatmguy has mentioned, keeping a butane lighter in an inner pocket close to your body's heat solves that problem but getting to it in extreme weather may involve removing gloves or opening foul weather gear. Rather than expose flesh or lose body heat some prefer a temperature independent method that can be stored externally such as the fire stick and tinder/PJ cotton system. My $0.02 US. Pete
