I am up here in the North (Canada) I ordered a few knives from 2 online shops. PVK and switchbladekits.
I was not spending a large amount.

THE GOOD.
switchbladekits, I received all I ordered in a very timely manner (All arrived within 2 weeks of placing my order). And for what I paid I was impressed with the quality.
PVK, (on the site it claims " special carrier to ensure customs clearance", This is NOT the case. USPS with a tracking number.
Of course Customs seized part of my order after holding it for over 30 days.
This is not the sellers fault. Only fault he made was claiming to ship in a manner that would clear customs.
BOTH responded to emails in a timely manner.

The BAD, Canada knife laws and customs... well I think we all know. I can get a gun easier then I can get a cheap less then 3" auto.

The ultimate problem is the legislation up North.

Our legislation is fine, we have the most relaxed laws about ownership and carry of anywhere on the planet....

It's customs that is a problem, they have their own set of rules, with zero transparency. They can take what they want, when they want, and owe you no explanation or recourse.

That is our problem.

Sorry Rev, you are correct, legislation has given them this power....

Just so the OP knows, anything that is now ordered to your address will now be opened and thoroughly checked.

This is what happens when you have something 'seized' you are now 'flagged'....

Make sure all pivots are tight, and don't order anything you think might be borderline, unless you can afford to lose it....

Were you trying to get an auto?? Cause if so, THAT is why it was seized or... am I missing something??

That is what I learned by talking with a person at Canada Post.

Yep. I have received a few autos without problem. I do not carry them, I have them for the novelty. For some reason this one was sent to Richmond BC for sorting. It was held for 32 days before I received a notice.

Truthfully, you've probably been lucky to get those ones as CBSA can't inspect ALL pkg's that come thru the border. As you probably know they are prohibited in Canada so just be careful cause they could get you into some trouble... especially now if you're flagged because of having something seized. Might want to give the auto's a pass from now on. Not worth the headache IMO cause it could bite you

Sorry but this simply isn't true. There are places here in the states that one can carry knives deemed illegal by Canadian law.

As to the OP, your items have much less chance of being seized if you weren't importing illegal items.

RevDevil, I am and was fully aware of these out dated laws.

I'm sure that you are, but others that read this thread may not be aware, it wasn't posted for your benefit alone. This topic comes up occasionally and it's good to have that as a resource. It's a slippery slope, and based on the wording of the law even assisted opening knives can be considered illegal.

Am I missing something?...importing illegal items thru customs is a big no no and at least you got lucky that you are here in Canada and CBSA just seized the package and didn't send the cops to your door to take you to jail like in some other countries I heard. There is a huge penalty if you are even found with something like that on you....just a disaster waiting to happen in my books and not worth at all not even for novelty. I am even surprised you have guns and prohibited items stored in your house knowing police has the right to go in and inspect your guns under my understanding...

Well, discussion on breaking the laws, illegal activities is not allowed here. OP is lucky to have gotten this far in his thread, further questions threads following this theme will be dealt with by locked accounts. Common sense should be a consideration folks, always.
