Benchmade 580/585 are very strong and the AO Axis is superb out of the box. Second, the Nitrous models are very good, +1 on the 913/907 models...great D2 blades.

Try to get past your worry about knives coming out of box not as sharp as you'd like and either get a SharpMaker or Edge Pro...you won't be sorry.

There's also the Kershaw Spec-Bump 1596SW. Don't discount the looks. It is actually very versatile and has S30v. I got mine for about half your budget. If you are looking for a more refined look and feel, then I would suggest the Benchmade Torrent 890. Just some variety for you.

Why would you not contact Benchmade about the dull blades? Pack them all in one USPS Priority box and for $5.00 total you can ship them to Benchmade for a Warranty Repair. Tell them that you will not pay for resharpening.

Bootcher
Because I don't mind sharpening them. It's annoying to get new knives that are dull when new-in-box like that, but much more annoying to have to send my nice new knives away for weeks before I can use them.

Also I don't trust the customs people to let me have them back - I do not trust any gubmint "official", ever, with anything, except for total incompetetence and stealing money out of my pocket. Don't get me started. :D

Also, shipping would be substantially more than $5.00 from here in Canada to Benchmade.
