man oh man..... all i can say is i will never purchase a knife via money order again..... paypal only..... i just got voted bad over in gb & u...... life goes on.

I only use Paypal as well...

Not that it is fool proof, but it's an extra layer backing me up...

i dont like to send mo's either. i normally avoid purchasing this way unless i really want the item, and there is no other way. ill take them, but never ship until i have it in hand.

I agree with the paypal thing. But there are some HOGS here that usually only use money orders. I think it's just up to what works best for the individual. But I am a paypal kinda guy.

I think that your honesty, clarification, and apology to him speaks volumes of your character. As far as I am concerned I'd still do business with either of you. This was just "one of those things".

Paypal is frustrating with the charges --- but it is fast and easy -- leaves no room for doubt. I'd prefer to do it that way if given the option.

Some guys won't take it (I'm guessing for reasons of conviction?)...

Don't sweat it VTW, one bad thread won't hurt your good rep. Especially with your explanation and apology.

my only beef with the thread is the name calling in the starters second post, and in the title, and that vtw is truly a stand up guy. guess i have a beef with the whole thing.

With all the confusion gone now

Agreed. I always hate that part. Name calling quickly sours any possible resolution and makes explaining and or apologizing difficult.

Man! I just reread the second post with the insults. I know frustration. And sometimes you have to vent. But I think those were a tad harsh. A little personal. But maybe after cooling off and reading VTWs post he may reconsider.

i'm going to vote for the money order as opposed to paypal. first reason is that paypal has too many associated fees and continues to add to them, as evidenced by the cross border thread in GB&U. secondly, because all a buyer has to do is call BS on delivery and yank their authorization to the funds. thirdly, because i've had problems with, and just flat out don't like paypal.

in defense of money orders - and i prefer postal MO's only - if you use a postal MO you are protected as a buyer and a seller. it may cause some issues if there are delays, but as long as there are good communications it can still be worked out. i had a money order take a month to get to TX on my first purchase here. i was in constant e-mail, PM and phone contact with the seller, and it all came out good in the end. if it's an issue, a money order can always be sent with a tracking no. or express mail to lessen the possibility of problems. as a buyer i know that if i get jerked by the seller that i can have the post office take care of it, because now it is postal fraud and the government is involved. as a seller, if i get a USPS money order i can cash it at the post office, and if it's counterfeit then they will take care of the problem. no worries about having my bank come after me down the road after it turns out to be a fake and they revoke the funds, because i've got cash in hand and the post office will go after the sender.

i know that there are pros and cons to both, and the bottom line to any good deal is communications, but my vote is for the money order. and i've already started drinking, so there...

It's understandable that some don't like to use PayPal and some do. In VTW's case.....being as busy as he is: I can totally see why he chooses to use PayPal. If I'm selling something, I try to stay open and use either method so long as the buyer wants to eat the PP fees. If not, I can always wait a few days for a MO.....it would take that long for the money to transfer into my bank account from PayPal anyway. If I'm a buyer and it's over a couple hundred bucks, I figure it's worth it to pay with a money order. I figure if I buy something that's $700, I'm saving $30 (shipping/MO fee included) and so on. I guess it's fortunate that I work at the PO and mailing isn't a hassle :D. It's also fortunate that we have some very honest and trusting guys here that have even shipped a very nice knife to me before I even confirmed that I'd sent payment. I've never given any reasons not to trust me......but still: That's pretty cool in my book!

money orders are great if both parties are willing to wait....it may take a week or more to arrive. as a seller, you have to accept that...and the fact that it could get lost, damaged, etc. as a buyer, you have to wait for the seller to receive it, and for it to clear(for some sellers)

Crack breaks you. You can only spin like that on. . .

Oh come on, wait for it. . .

You KNOW it's gonna be bad, right?

CRANK!

If you take USPS money orders there is no problems for me and it only adds two to three days, thats nothing of a wait really.

Paypal will only cause the customer to pay more Fee's and there still may be more hidden fee's on some.

I do take paypal at 3% charge to customer, I just hate it for the customer and I much prefer to pay when I buy by USPS money order and save myself the fee's. I can wait three days.

I just do what the other party want's either way though, makes all smooth for everbody.

Opinions do vary it would seem.

US Postal Money orders are my first choice with people I do not know.

With people that I do know I like either US Postal Money orders or personal checks.

Either way I am not comfortable with Pay Pal.

But, like I said Opinions do vary

The fees do suck. What I do is I look for sales that list the total sale price which includes shipping, insurance, and paypal fees. And if selling I do the same for the buyer. I include all those things in my posted price. Perhaps if I bought and sold more I might change my mind.
