Good beer for about $30/case??

I might play it safe and go for 2 12 packs rather then a case. A 12 pack of Dos Equis or Corona is about $13 on sale here in MI (just looked it up). Popular spring/summer type brew, bring some limes. Not sure what a 12 pack of Guiness, Mackeson, or Sam Adams will run. Maybe a Molson, Rolling Rock, or Leinenkugel (sp?) for the other 12 pack? I stopped drinking a year ago, not up to date on my prices.

Go for Stella. Make sure its in a box so it hasnt spoiled. Its a great lager with about as interesting a taste as you'll find in a lager. It works in hot weather and aint bad in cold weather. Goes great with Spicy food. I've never met anyone who didnt like it. Session Lager is almost as good but its more of Micro Brew by Full Sail in Oregon, so it might not be available out there.

I don't really claim to be a beer connoisseur, but I like Land Shark. Coming a close second would be Dos Equis. I also thought Pranqster and Blue Moon was pretty good too.

Land Shark isn't half bad. It's a nice, mellow beer that can be drank whenever. I'd reach for one if it was a hot day and I'm thirsty.

Have you tried some of that Dogfish Head stuff? From what I hear, they make a mean IPA.

Nope never tried, but I'll look for it. I mainly keep beer around to wash down BBQ, hot wing, pizza, and Mexican food. Don't really drink to be drinking. Just like to experience of trying new stuff. I did pick up some Flying Dog pale ale and ended up giving to my neighbor who is a big beer drinker. I just couldn't stand the bitterness.

Sounds like you wouldn't like the IPA then, considering it tends to be much more bitter. What about a nice lager?

I don't know. My brother-in-law let me try a IPA that was alright. He kept describing it as flower, and I could see that. I was expecting something really bitter but I was pleasantly surprised. So maybe to say the Fly Dog was bitter was not quite the right word. I don't know what it was, but I didn't like it.

I think I understand what you mean. It's not quite that it's so much bitter as much as it's "hoppy." I don't know how else to really describe it. Perhaps it tastes like it's just full of tannins or something, or that it actually burns. Some people actually like that feeling, but it's not for me.

If you get a chance, you should give Duvel a try. If I'm feeling a little ritzy and I want something that can be drank very easily, that's the stuff I reach for. Those champagne bubbles really do the trick.

Mmm...that Highlands Oatmeal Porter sounds delicious. Where might I get some of this stuff? Usually, when I'm in the mood for something dark, I'll pick up an Old Rasputin. Tends to do the trick rather well. If I'm more for a dessert or after-dinner beer, in comes the Young's Double Chocolate Stout. However, for overall enjoyability, can't go wrong with a pint of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale fresh from the tap.

It's a local beer, brewed in Asheville, NC. But I've heard of people in other parts of the country finding it at Sam's Club.

Highlands makes some great stuff. The Oatmeal Porter is best on tap, but their Gaelic Ale is an excellent summer beer, just light enough that it's refreshing. Their IPA is one of the best I've ever had too.

Give Sam's a try. Or just fly into Asheville, and I'll treat you to an evening at Barley's Tap Room where you can get microbrews from all over the country and world. Good music too. :D

I gave Land Shark a try not too long ago, just because I liked the name. I was plesantly surprised because judging by the color, I didn't think I'd like it too much.

And yes, the Dogfish Head IPA is great.

Now that's an offer I can't refuse. If you ever come around the west coast, I'll treat you to an Arrogant Bastard. The stuff is strong, but damn tasty.

If you can find Boulevard Wheat, in you area, it's a great all around beer that everyone likes. I'm lucky enough to live where they make it, and I've toured the place a few times. I feel sorry for the folks who don't get to try all their seasonals.

My new favorite of theirs is a Single Wide IPA.

Goose Island! lots of different brews to choose from.....an not too crazy/out there so that everybody could enjoy it! I thought the brown ale almost had a outdoorsy/gamy taste to it....perfect for camping/cookout....

if you can find it, i definitely suggest it!

oh! and its only about 6 bucks a sixer....so in your price range....

Hey, have any of you guys tried Trader Joe's "Simpler Times Lager". $3.99 per six-pack in cans. 6.2% ABV. I'm pretty sure it's an all-malt recipe. Pretty good for the price. I'll drink that over Bud/Miller/Coors any day.

Pilsner Urquell

While that's my absolute favorite beer period I wouldn't suggest it for people who are used to drinking American beer. It has a very hoppy flavor that doesn't seem to work for people with Budweiser palates. ;) If they like a beer with flavor that's a different story....
