Good belts

Where can I get good quality belts for my 2X72 grinder? The ones I have all have a seam in them with no grit at the seam. Makes a snag as you use them. Thanks guys!!
 
Harvey Dean recommends using the yellow flexible Klingspor belts in the 120 and finer grits. I use the blue and orange Nortons an Klingspors for heavy stuff and the cheaper AO blets for hogging out wood. I just got some 220 yellow Klingspors over the weekend and I am gong to ordr some 120's too. They are GREAT!!!!! The 220's roll over the edge of the platen very smoothly and make plunge grinding much easier. Not a whole lot of bump either.

Actually, I haven't ordered belts in a long time so there may be some excellent choices I'm not aware of. I've had good luck with the 3M Trizact belts and I hear the Gator belts are good. If you use the search function you'll probably find more info on belts than you can stand!
 
Just ordered some Klingspor belts in all the grits from pops. Thanks guys.
 
I have been using the Norton Blaze belts for a while and love them. They seem to almost last forever and I havent thrown one out yet. When new, I seem to be able to hog better than any other belt, but i dont claim to have tried every belt out there.

The Blaze belts do flat out remove some metal. I don't even have to use the KMG at full speed with them, So do the blue belts from Norton and Klingspor. On smaller baldes, I don't even bother with the 36-40 grit and go straight to 60. so I avoid that whole "sandstorm" effect:D
 
With a new 60 grit blaze, i feel like i can lean into it as hard as i want and instead of sparks, i can see a silver stream of grindings coming off the belt.
 
Ordered me a couple Norton Blaze 60grits from Trugrit. Man you guys are costing me money today.

That is strange isn't it? I was wondering if it was just me. I don't see sparks from the Blaze belts, but i end up with a HUGE wad of homemade steel wool in the bottom of my cooling bucket which also acts as a catch tray. By the way, David....I hadn't seen your knives in a while.....lookin good, man!!!

They grind about 4 times longer than the A/O 3M belts I'd been using.

Yeah ive been AWOL all winter with work and varying other things....not much time to make knives but have a few orders to do now so im back in the swing of things. nothing like a big 15" OAL order to get me back in gear!

I totally agree with ou on the blazes....no sparks at all, just steel dust. Maybe they cut so well that even the tiny bits dont heat up enough to burn?
 
just talked to Pops wife yesterday! The ceramic belts have spead me up 50% :thumbup:

for most of my work, I use the j-weight yellow Klingspor 80, 120, 220 grit.

I do need to try the new Blaze belts soon but I have not found any better than the yellow klingspors for fine work.
 
I love Pops, and would prefer to buy from him (still will for many things) but the Norton Blaze belts are incredible.

I mean, INCREDIBLE.

I've managed to profile and rough grind two big blades, and the same belt won't quit. I've never seen anything cut like these things do.
