Good boot knife

Whenever I feel threatened I find that, aside from a firearm, there is no better feeling than a good Louisville Slugger.

At 14 he can't have what I call a boot knife. You would have to have a car that you can stop and go round the rear and haul out a 22" sword out of the boot.

Knives in footware get lost or regarded as evil intent. They are also a bitch when driving.

I have a Gerber Boot Knife that I bought years ago and I have often wondered just how useful it would really be. I mean, unless you blouse your pants into the tops of the boots before you clip the knife and sheath into the boot top, you would have to pull your pants leg up th access the knife and that seems rather awkward. Conversely, tucking it into the top of a boot with bloused pants legs defeats the concept of a boot knife, which is concealment. The tucked knife would be quite obvious, standing out there at the top of your boot.

Right. The reason I carried a boot knife in the military (Naval Aviation) was that I was hoping I could get to ONE of my knives if I was partially squished in a mishap and needed a knife for egress and survival. If I couldn't get to the one in my survival vest, maybe the one in my boot. If not that, maybe the little folder in my shoulder pocket. You get the idea.

Asfried, I was thinking of the knife less in a military context than in a civilian context.

My dad got me my first SAK when I was in grade 1, a fixed blade when I was 12. I think this has to go from kids to kids basis. Just make sure you use it safely as the last joint of my pinky doesn't move anymore cuz I was being stupid and cut the tendons off!

sorry spur of the moment idea, verry dumb on my part but in my state it is legal i checked the laws and it does not put an agelimit on carying knives only illeagals are switchblades and gravity knives and may be double edge. I have always liked the Hey I got knife in my shoe idea. Another reason i came up with this idea is that a violent sex offender moved near us and i wanted an SD knife i just remembered that after my first post (probably a much better reason). I'll go with the SAK or leatherman maybe my minigrip. I use the knife to open packaging and stuff so a dedicated boot knife is very stupid. I also forgot the fact that that would instantly make it seem like I'm a criminal. Now Lets make it sheeple friendly knives.

Yep get a normal looking folder or pocket knife. When I was your age I always had a pocket knife on me but I admit times have changed and for some reason they have gotten more dangerous and yet a kid with a pocket knife will be more apt to get in trouble.

When I was 16 and went through my "Ninjaman" phase I had throwing spikes(worthless), mace and a knife in my car on a set up on my steering colum with an ax handle next to my seat and no I did not look for trouble I avoided it. However one night officer friendly pulls me over for a tail light being out and when he walks up to my car and flashes his light around he sees my "Ninjaman" battle gear and almost draws and shoots me (I know because he told me when I was in his car) because it was on my steering colum close to my hands which were on my steering wheel of course. When he asked me why I had all that stuff I replied "Hey there are crazy people out there." Fortunatly for me he just said "Yep there is but you might want to put that stuff in another location so it is not next to your hands when a policeman pulls you over." So I did and lived happily ever after and even married the girl who was sitting next to me in the car. :D To end the long story I would say to stay clear of any thing that looks tacticool but get something that is still useful and avoid trouble even if you think it makes you look stupid.

a leatherman/ gerber will be the most sheeple friendly item you can really carry and not have to worry about the whole "you carry a knife?"

i get that responce by people around my age a lot and im in VA in suburbs between cities and rural areas so knives are not rare at all but teenagers (espicaly from girls) i have gotten a lot of surprise from them.

i didnt EDC until about 8 months ago but pretty much when ever i went to a girls house i took my knives out and left them in my car, some what to not worry about any reactions from parents and now that i think about it probably a little bit of a respect issue, you dont want to put your self in a posistion that even remotley shows you are anything but submissive to her father (at least at first until he becomes friendly to you).

you seem like you realized your idea was a bad one (gota make mistakes to learn) so i think you can make a good choice now. best thing that is efficent, low matenance, and non-threatening is a box cutter like a gerber superknife.

I would reccomend investing in a small pocket dictionary instead of a knife for you kids.

Yea, I didn't make myself as clear as I could have. I was basically agreeing with you that a boot knife in civilian life would be hard.

The first boot knife that I ever purchased was a Kershaw brand. I have always liked Kershaw and they have been around for a long time. Obviously there are many more fine knifes for you to choose from and I have collected many others over the years. But the first one that I purchased going in the military was the Kershaw that definitley proofed to be a good working tool.

Now I just recently purchased a CRKT-Sting and that is also a nice knife that fits comfortably and can be carried in many different configurations.
