I'm looking to buy a new knife(let's face it,who here isnt).I want a good all-round hunting/camp knife.my budget is around $50 us,which is about $100 au.I was looking at the buck 119 as a hunting knife and the kabar heavy bowie as a camp knife.
which of these 2 would you buy?

I would always buy the Buck. Have you looked at the Buck Nighthawk series? Good tough knives for the $$$$. ;)

actually yeah i have. What are the sheaths like? Also i'm 15 and the folks are a little 'anti-knife' so i wanted to get somthing that doesnt look too 'tactical'.

I would not always buy a Buck, but I would always recommend a Buck. It is a good starter knife, and I have had a 119 for several years now and like it very much. It was passed down to me from my grandmother, who used it as a garden knife. It is my proud loaner to all responsible enough to return it. The Buck 119 makes a good Camp Knife as well, just don't pry with it.

In most cases i wouldn't use any knife to pry, just to be safe.Although i really like the leather sheath for the 119,also the classic design would also seem easier to convince the parents.the nighthawk just seems like an oxide coated 119 with a different sheath and handle.

Buck knives are very good. I have been carrying my 112 folder for 35 years. I also have a 119, excellent knife. Ya just can't go wrong with a Buck. Check out ebay, some good deals there

Get the Ka Bar USMC...good all-around knife. If the folks object, just tell them you are preparing to enlist in a couple years.....that should score points with them....:D:thumbup:

Well i do actually have a plan which should help.I love camping and bushcraft so i want to go into C.A.L.M(conservation and land management).which is like a ranger.Someone in that line of work would need knives and stuff right?

Wreckager, fifty dollars US is about fifty five dollars Australian. Not much difference in the exchange rate (at least this month).
If you buy online from the US, expect to add about $A10-20 to the purchase cost for shipping.
When you decide what to buy, go to the Bladeforum "Australia and Asia" forum and get advice from the blokes there about customs and importing certain types of knives before you send off your money.
You can find good entry level camp knives in your price range at many disposal stores. Beware Chinese or Pakistani cheap junk. Both Buck and Kabar are good, but might be a little too expensive.
A good rule is "you get what you pay for". Save up a little longer and get the best you can afford.

Right.

Look at the Buck 105 Pathfinder. It's smaller than the 119 and may not look as 'cool', but it is very functional and probably better than a larger knife at most tasks.

you should give the Beckers a look, can't be beat for the price. BK2 for about $55.
