Hello all,
I am relatively new to northern Alabama and wanted to see if anyone knew of good camping spots around Huntsville, AL. I was wanting to bring my family as well which I have 2 boys, ages 7 and 5.
I was looking at TN state camp grounds and thought that Fall Creek Falls looked very cool as well as Dismal Canyon in AL.
Any thoughts?

You are only 45 minutes away from Lake Guntersville, lots of small spots around the lake.
Just a little further south is Little River Canyon and Desota State Park.
Ask Gus about Little River Canyon.

Cloudland canyon state park in nw ga would be my bet. Its about 6 to 7 miles off the trenton exit of i-59. very pretty this time of year. Me and some friends hike down to the water fall monday, I could post pics if you would like.

Monte Sano State Park is practically in town, and has some nice hiking trails and camp grounds.

Its a bit farther, but don't forget about Great Smokey Mountains National Park in TN. It's only about 4hrs from Huntsville, and well worth the trip for a long weekend or more. As an added attraction, Smoky Mountain Knife Works (probably the world's largest brick & mortar knife store) is right near there, too. ;)

Wow, thank you all! Some really nice areas around here. I hiked the Green Mountain area a few weeks ago and didnt know about the Monte Sano Park. It really is close.
The Guntersville area also looks really nice. It is so nice to camp a near natural source of water.

That would be great. I hiked the AT when I was 13/14 with my dad and remember northern GA to be beautiful.

There is actually a route called the Pinhoti Trail that starts at Flagg Mountain just southeast of Birmingham, AL and connects to the AT in GA.

There has been some talk of adding the Pinhoti Trail to the AT and extending it to Flagg Montain, AL which is considered the actualy southern end of the Appalacian mountain chain. Not sure if that ever became offical or not though.

Mt. Cheaha is nice as well...although it is east of Birmingham in the Talladega National Forest...
