Good cause to leave my knives to?

Contact the nearest military base or national guard armory, tell them you have knives to donate to the troops.

Can someone point me is some good directions here?
Thanks.

That question use to bother me. Now, I no longer care. If and when anyone in the family shows any interests, I would be happy to teach them about knives. Otherwise, should they decide to throw the stuff out because it is too much trouble, it will be their loss, and someone else's gain. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink; and, most people would rather die then think.

Why worry about it; if your family isn't concerned, then why should you be?

Good ideas, thanks.
Guess I'll write something up.
Stuff like the JD Smith to the Boy Scouts, stuff like the ZT 301 to the service.
Hopefully these will be very old and worn out knives before they're up for grabs.

May I ask again what your age is?

Our stuff is going to wildlife federation and looking for other animal oriented places, like bird sanctuary, etc

Been wondering about this myself. We've no kids, one nephew & lots of nieces who couldn't care less about knives. None of my friends share my interest in edge tools. In spite of myself I have started a small collection of great knives at least 4 made by knifemakers of BladeForums. Expect that there will be many more in my future including a few of the truly exceptional folders by some of the amazing makers here - soon as I can afford such a luxury. So - what do we all do with these special blades when we are givin' the boot? I've been thinking to start this kind of thread asking if Blade Forums would consider creating a category for this purpose. It's not such a stretch to think that of the many hundreds of members on this site that such a category would provide a welcome venue & or resource. We here could advise on fair selling price & therefore help our community & families through a difficult process.
Knowing that you guys are out there willing to provide such support, I would instruct, through my will, to my wife or other executor, to post my blades on the BladeForum for sale. Good knives would go to good homes & my wife would get a fair return on items that she could not know how to value otherwise. Yes, I could do some planning and provide info & sale prices on each knife (likely I will) but I haven't yet and one never knows... Is this asking too much of the BladeForums community? What do you folks think?

That's insane!!!
What a great idea!!
Everyone could do good on something like this-
Buyer- Gets good deal, but not "steal".
Seller- Gets a good, fair price for the items
Forum- If it was, say an auction type, a few percent for the auction or sell forum ONLY for this type of sale.
ONLY for either deceased or emergency/health, long term care types of things and proven by a certificate, etc so it does not just become another sell forum.
If you knew a knife was going to a "real" good cause, I do not mind paying more. Kind of like a donation with benefits.

I do not know about everyone else, but I like it, it would sure help the "survivor" or those too sick to do sells and auctions, etc.

I'm all for it.
It would be nice if the knives ended up with someone who would appreciate 'em.
I'm sure there would be a bit of business here if families could get free estimates, be assured of 'x' percentage of the sale and know that the sales would at least be legal since this is LEO central (gotta let 'em know the LEO concentration here - it'll sell like water in the desert to sheeple who just inherited a stack of knives that they consider weapons).
I just don't want 'em going in the trash or scraping out a crack pipe.

It's funny, but the only persons in my family showing any interest in guns and knives are: my daugther (17 y.o.), an one nephew (about 24 y.o). So for now, my stuff is going to my girl (if I see a genuine interest in my nephew, I might give some of my knives and/or guns to him).

Here is an amazing charity: http://www.huntofalifetime.org

Make a wish foundation will not take any hunting or fishing based requests, this charity fills in for terminally ill kids who have a dream of a hunting or fishing trip. Maybe they could put some donated goods to use.

Have them auctioned off at a fundraiser to benefit a foundation. There are so many out there to choose from. I donate a lot of my work to the local American Cancer Center auctions, what could be better than knowing you helped someone out with your treasures? I never saw a hearse with a luggage rack on it, make your wishes known early.

Thank you waynejitsu & termiteslayer for your enthusiasm. I've nothing against donating knives for sale through various charities- scouts, police locals etc. but I just can't imagine a better appreciation for "signature" or "custom" knives than by knife nuts like us in this forum. And so I wonder again, for our mutual consideration & benefit, how to get our various favorites into the most appreciative hands - EDCs with the stories of how these knives were used & cared for – to folks who completely understand. I'm likin' the auction format. May be asking a lot of BladeForum moderators but I think this is really one of the best places to find new homes for our collections or unique blades. Me? I'm a strong & healthy 56.

Why not give them to the NRA? They have a program just for that purpose. Or maybe Knife Rights?

+1

The guns and knives will be auctioned to further the cause. Why not pick your favorite 3 knives and make a provision in your will (pics and description would help the executor out) and have the executor login as you? That way he can inform us of your heavenly departure as well as post your final give away.

did you say croak?
well bless your good heart, and kindly donate them to a missonary!
you name will be in their prayers and conversation for a while longer on earth...

Depends on what you are carrying but I run a memorial service for knives :D

So, not trying to be a bummer here, but one of these days I'm going to croak - just thinking ahead.
I have a couple of firearms and a stack of knives that my sister (if she's around when I go) will likely just dump off at the police station and walk away.
It would be a shame to not put the value of my stuff towards a decent charity.
Not sure how to go about this... hopefully I'll have decades to make up my mind.
Any reputable organizations that would auction off my stuff for a good cause? Something for kids, maybe?
To be honest, I'd like to be somewhat selective in who might be eligible to receive my goods.
People who actually would need a knife for work, or reasonable play - gackheads, chest puffers and psychos need not apply.

Can someone point me is some good directions here?
Thanks.

This is the charity I started: Committee Against Social Hypocricy ... Make the check out to CASH for short and sent it to me ...yuk, yuk, yuk, (just kidding)

Just the fact that you age thinking about it and are wanting to help others is great.

Lots of good ideas/advise here: Family, Military, Scouts, Wilderness camps, NRA, This board as a conduit (great idea IMO) etc. etc.

Just don't let your life of collecting go to waste. That would be the worst crime.
