Recently I went to a local show and spotted a cheap blade that I couldn't resist picking up for the 20$ price tag. Even though it's china stainless, I love the design and feel of this knife. I never really cared much about destroying the knife, and while I haven't put it through anything heavy, I have used it for brush clearing and chopping small branches under an inch. The blade has kept its edge after probably 3 uses showing almost no visible signs of wear. I know it's cheap, but I can't deny that I love this knife. I'm curious, what kind of steel am I dealing with? Is there a chance I stumbled on a diamond in the rough, or am I just enamored with something cheap that will inevitably fail me in the long run?
Are there any reputable knifemakers doing a comparable design with quality craftmanship and materials? I doubt the knife I have is of real world functional quality, but I would be very interested in a quality knife of similar design. I love the finger ring on the handle and the recurve bowie/kukri hybrid shape.
For 20$, I am happy with what I have.
