Hello guys, Im looking for a good knife around $100 dollars
What I want the knife to have
- Combat Knife
- Full Tang
- 7 - 9 inches blade
- Good Steel
- Non serrated blade
- Able to handle some survival situations

Kukri, used by the Gurkhas for hundreds of years and still issued by the British Army to Gurkha soldiers for both combat and general use. Gurkhas are still trained to chop off enemies' heads with a single swipe.

I second the notion of a BK 9, and the Kukri is also a solid choice. Way back in the day, Gerber made a coffin handled bowie which was a heck of a good cutter, I suspect that the Gerber would command a bit more than your $100 price point. That knife is truly missed!

SOG Super Bowie: 7.5" blade. A little over the limit price wise...

SOG Seal Team S37K, 7" blade, and just over $100. Sheath is nylon which is better than all of the potentially edge-dulling Cold Steel Securex sheaths: This is why I don't mention any of the current Cold Steel, although they have lots of models. The Seal Team is OK but can't compare at all with the Super Bowie, which is far superior in every respect...

I don't think a "combat" blade lends itself to make a good survival knife, because of the tip issue: A true "fighting" blade wants a light skinny penetrating tip (which can still be strong), and survival requires a heavy tip: They work at cross-purpose, and any blade under 9" is too light for any chopping: It's a hand-hurting "hacker" at best... That being said, for its size the SOG Super Bowie is incredibly heavy at over 17 ounces, and that is an excellent thing for that elusive dual-purpose notion... Furthermore, the deep hollow grind of the SOG Super Bowie gives it some unusually serious sideway "bite", while still being very pointy and strong-tipped: There is really no other production knife quite like it with a 7.5" blade... The stone pouch can be used for survival items, and the sheath is very good for the price.

I would really ignore the $70 or $90 extra cost and get this one... Don't listen to anyone disparaging the Aus-8 steel: It is actually a strong argument for buying it.

Just have to ask, is this for combat or duty or for camping and outdoor living? What is your intended uses? For a large camp knife, the Becker 9 is great, I personally like the Becker 7 if you plan to camp and not travel too far, just trail hiking or in and out to a nice camping spot. Your needs may be different if you are hiking long distances. If you are active duty, from what I have read most soldiers have liked the use of a multi tool rather than a big fixed blade, so maybe combined with a 4-5 inch blade would be more appropriate. Let us know your thoughts.

Some more thoughts if for camping ,I like the idea of a Nessmuk trio, some essential tools rather than just the one-tool option. I mentioned in another thread talking about Kephart and Nessmuk (George Washington Sears) I like the new Buck Compadre series, the fixed blade 104 and the chopper Froe. Sorry to OP if this got off topic.

Get and Eickhorn KM2000, Eickhorn knives are carried by NATO forces and are rugged knives with quality heat treated steel. Non serrated versions are here in the links:

What is your intended use? Survival and combat = pretty broad spectrum.

What is YOUR definition of 'good steel?'

Which survival scenarios does 'some survival situations entail?'

...oh, and welcome to the forum.

Or consider the Cold Steel Recon Tanto. Is it a good combat knife? I dunno... I'm a non-combatant these days. But CS calls it a combat knife so there you go.

KnifeCenter has one on sale as we speak. Like $60.

I had one back in the day, and I liked it just fine. Might have to grab me a new one whilst they are on discount.

BK9 ... if your unit will let you carry a 9". Else the BK7.

Ethan Becker designed the BK7 cuz some units would not allow blades longer than the standard Kabar. He also made it more of a "soldier's knife".
