Im looking for a good quality combat knife( like a glock field knife) any suggestions?

The best, without doubt, is the Busse Steel Heart E. About $300 though.

For a knife that is close to the Steel Heart performance without the extra cost, go for the Swap Rat Knives Camp Tramp. At just under $140 shipped to your house, it's an excellent buy.

The Steel Heart you can depend on with your life. The Camp Tramp seems to be nearly as indestructable.

For something cheaper, I hear good things about the BK&T CU7. It felt good in the hand, but the Busse and Swamp Rat lifetime unconditional guarantees make them the better value.

Striders are also very good, but are expensive as well.

Bottom line is: if you need a knife that you need to depend on without fail, get the Busse. Next in line is the Camp Tramp, then on to whatever else you might want. Although you might want to get one or two of the cheap ones, so you have something to back up to when they break.

I'm not a combat person, but the Becker Knife & Tool Combat/Utility 7 is one of the best deals around.

Horus.... that Smith and Wesson is an unbelievably beautiful knife!!!!! WOW!!!! Do you have the specs? Blade length, material, price, availability etc.? I would love to buy one.

You must also look at the Al Mar SERE Operator fixed blade...unbelievable!!!!

Himalayan Imports khukuri. The original combat knife, a design older than most religions, crafted by men who know nothing else.

You are making me think way back to my training at Camp Pendelton but if I remember right,

"The best knive to take into combat for hand to hand is your 1911.45 auto" That was a direct qoute by Sgt Schusko.

For 8 years I carried only the simple K-Bar, It was mostly used to open ammo crates, and to fart around with. If I felt that I was even going to get into H2H I would put my Machette, or e tool by me where it could be grabbed easily.

Ok now the old guy talk is gone. I vote for the Becker 9 inch. Reach is really that important in H2H. The 7 incher lookes solid but I want every inch of reach I can get. But most likely I would still pick the lowely machette .

I don't have a lot of experience with this type of knife, not that I have much experience with any type of knife, but I sure do like the BK-7.

I have a rookie question on the S&W combat/survival knife. What kind of grind did they use? It looks from the pic that they took a lot of steel off of the side of the blade. Would that substantially weaken the knife for serious work?

Yans- I feel the same way. I have a bunch of fancy "tactical" folders, but if I could only bring one blade to a fight, it would be my Tramontina machete (made in Brazil!) that I think I picked up for 10 bucks. I don't care what sort of fancy Microtech OTF you gave me, that machete might stop a fight before it starts on sheer intimidation factor!

Yans. You hit the nail on the head. Right on!

Once you get past all the hype and BS that companies throw at you, you will realize that the good ol' K-bar has put in more combat hours that almost all the new fangled knives put together.

That being said. Buy mine, I got rent coming up :D.

HKGK, how do you define "combat"? Most differentiate "combat" from "fighting". The Glock knife you mentioned is more of a fighting knife -- long, slim blade, etc. It would be used much as the M3 Trench Knife of WWII fame would, for thrusting, perhaps some slashing. A pure combat knife is used more as a utility knife for all the chores needed while in the field, away from garrison.

What did you have in mind? Most soldiers want a knife that will do both, and most posters above have answered as such, but if you are looking for a pure fighter (since the Glock would be a questionable field knife) then we have to turn the corner to get closer to what you need.

If you are in the military then you dont need a "combat knife"... you are issued what is probably the best hand to hand tool around.. the e-tool. So instead of stressing combat.. I would find a good field knife... I do not leave garrison without one of these 3.. classic USMC K-Bar, Cold steel SRK (for sale, gotta scrounge for that swamp rat) or my Philipino jungle bollo....
