Good combat knife

Assuming that "combat knife" refers to a pure fighting knife, I recommend an Applegate-Fairbairn Black.(available from Boker)
That is, if you need it for stabbing and slashing.
If you like chopping , Busse Steel Heart/Battle Mistress and Khukuris are best, and these are also useful as tools.

Fällkniven A1 is a also good knife for military use, it can do almost everything you´d expect from a knife , and it is way less expensive than a Busse.

I have read some reservations about the Fallkniven A1 in a combat role. The guard is very small and may not provide a sufficiently secure grip for stabbing.

No one has mentioned my favorite, the Randall Model 14. It has an excellent guard.

TOPs makes some very good looking combat knives, but I don't see alot about them in the forums.

Some very good customs at reasonable prices are made by John Greco and Mineral Mountain Hatchet Works. The strength and ruggedness of
their knives ought to come close to that of Busses and Striders, I would think. Ted Frizzell at Mineral Mountain uses 5160 steel, which is a favorite for making swords and other blades that need to be tough.

I'll second that Randall Model 14. However, are we talking knife against knife (a rare occurance, indeed) or against an opponent armed with who-knows-what? Here, you can sacrifice some quickness for extra reach and a machete is an awesome weapon, indeed (a katana isn't too shabby, either).

But if we're sticking to belt knives, the new Simonich Raven looks like a hell of a weapon and one of the toughest high-performance knives ever!
And at very close hand-to-hand range, something like a Hobbit Warrior or a similarly designed high-price custom would probably make sushi out of someone carrying a much larger knife.

So I guess there's no right answer; it depends how skilled you are in the various martial arts. And if you're relatively unskilled, try a cane or baseball bat, or, better yet by far, a Sig 229.

The BEST "combat knife" that I own is a SOG Trident. That sumbitch ROCKS, and I really can't think of a better one!!.:).

I saw that one on the website, and it sure looks like the best knife to come along in quite a while. It looks like Strider and Busse are in for some serious competition.

If you want the best, toughest knife at a true value get the Busse Steel Heart-E. Yes there are cheaper knives, but they are cheaper for a reason.

I've never seen one, but what about the MOD Mark V CQD Fixed Blade? I was thinking of getting one and would be interested in some feed back. Looks like a pretty good combat/fighting knife.
