hey guys, this is my first post so bear with me.
I'm headed back to school this week and i need a good blade to carry.
knives aren't illegal at school but they are frowned upon.
and i was wondering if you guys have any recommendation's for a good concealed carry knife
it would also be nice if when it is seen it doesn't look threatening or tactical
-thanks for your time

There are many threads on this topic. What size, weight, purpose are you looking for?

Spyderco Sage series. I personally prefer the Sage 2 myself, the Ti framelock placates my titanium addiction.

By concealed carry do you mean something you can defend yourself with? Something that isn't easily seen on your person by wandering eyes or something small and comfortable to carry?

You didn't mention your age or where you're located. Are you in the U.S?

The only reason I ask is I can't imagine in today climate (so many tragic events happening on school campuses) that carrying a knife at school would only be frowned upon...hate to see anyone get expelled or even reprimanded when they didn't intend to do anything wrong. One would think that a small SAK wouldn't look threatening or tactical, though even a SAK would get a student suspended or expelled in the school district we live in.

Best of luck and please make certain that you fully understand the rules of the school before carrying and/or concealing a knife while on school grounds.

To the OP, you say that knives are "frowned upon", what exactly does that mean? If you get caught carrying a knife will you be expelled? What type of school are you talking about? I'm curious about where this school is and if it is a public or private school because I know that it is illegal to carry knives of a certain length on school grounds in many places. And by "illegal", I mean a person can be arrested by the cops and taken to jail or juvenile hall.

If you are in college, getting caught with a knife in violation of campus rules might very well get you expelled. And any money spent on tuition, books, etc, could be forfeit. That could be a pretty heavy price to pay just to carry a knife. And if you are expelled from a college for "possession of a weapon" (and that's likely what it would be called) good luck getting into any other college with THAT on your record.

If we are talking about junior high or high school, getting caught with a knife in violation of school rules might get you expelled. Then you have to find a different school that will take you or be home schooled. And having a school record with a "weapons violation" on it might very well prevent you from getting into the college of your choice, or any college at all. It might also hurt your chances of entering the military (if that was your desire).

In general- if the rules say "NO KNIVES AT SCHOOL" it's a good idea to obey that rule because you might pay a very high price if you get caught.

And if you don't think that you will ever get caught because the knife is "concealed", well, people never think that they will get caught doing things they aren't supposed to, but they do anyways. If you feel safe in taking out your knife to cut something, even discreetly, someone might see it and report you. Or maybe it falls out of your pocket or bag. Or maybe the school decides to do a random search for weapons. You just never know how you might get caught.

Now I like knives as much as anyone and recognize the value in carrying them, and I carry some everyday wherever I go. But I also recognize that violating a stated school policy can result in some very unwanted repercussions. I hope you will carefully weigh all the risks before you violate any school rules.

As for killgar I have had buddies found with knives they just take them away, and many of my teachers have actually seen me with one and literally frowned upon it.
I'm just looking for a small knife i can carry without looking menacing.

The problem is that it doesn't matter what you or I see knives as, the school has its rules and will more than likely see it as a weapon. You haven't said if you're in the U.S or how old you are (what grade we're talking about), its very possible that a school system in another country may have different rules but even then I have to believe that you are at least running the risk of gettig into a lot of trouble. Why risk it? Find a nice EDC for after school...at school you can use school scissors to cut most things that require cutting. Good luck.

We need more info on what you want. There are hundreds upon hundred of knives that fit your listed needs.

Why not just carry a Swiss Army Knife? Very non-threatening and useful.

Leatherman squirt s4 or SAK classic alox. Both can handle the day to day stuff and don't cause too much of a fuss in my experience. Or maybe a nice peanut knife, I'm sure some of our traditional folder enthusiasts can advise you on which exact model if you go that route.

Then again your average dollar store scissors will take care of the daily tasks as well and since two knives on a hinge are not knives at all you are not (?) risking the wrath of the law. :D

Screen name is just a joke brosky
I think I might go the route of a sak.
Anybody suggestions for that?
Something locking and able to open with one hand would be sweet. Ill do my research on them

If you're going to carry a knife for day to day use... I'd suggest a small multitool like the Leatherman Squirt PS4-- I just got one myself for college. Since it's an art's college, things like box cutters and xacto knives are very commonplace, and I just wanted something that would be a little more dependable, as well as having the functionality of it's other tools.

OP, you sound as if you're in middle or high school, so your friends were probably just shown a lot of leeway when their knives were confiscated. I wouldn't advocate carrying a knife while at school unless you've cleared it with the admin first. The idea of carrying a small multitool may appeal more to them than even something like a small slipjoint, as it's not just a knife.

Good advice from Killgar and KLJTech.

Haha relax were not accusing you of anything.

Id just like not to recommend a knife to 'mentals', not saying you are, but a school kid asking sbout knife recommendations for school with 'fixedbladeninja' is a bit strange, even for me.

anyways, I carried a sak to school but as a tool. They are awesome toys IMO.

I am completely sane, fixedbladeninja was a joke a friend made for me when I got my first Bowie, it is nothin more.
As for knife recommendations: why not get other opinions?
