Someone mentioned in a thread about getting a round tin for a Maxpedition bottle holder. While I think I know of a few possibly well sized tins I can't get one until I can drive (or even walk) again.
So I found an alternative that we did have in stock that works rather well...
All you need to do is take a trip to the Body Shop and treat yourself or your loved one to a pot of Body Butter. I found an almost empty Sensual Ylang Ylang pot, but any flavour will do!
Once you've used up the contents, you are left with a screw-top plastic pot that's 90mm x 48mm (3-1/2 x 1-7/8 inches). It fits nicely into the MaxP 10x4 bottle holder, with just enough wiggle room that you can get it out again without a drama.
Here's the pot with a few standard measures of scale:
OK, so it's a plastic pot. That's possibly a drawback compared to a metal tin but since I haven't got hold of one yet, let's continue
If/when the pot makes it into actual use, I will wrap it with duct tape that will hold it together if it gets knocked hard enough to split it. It also provides a source of duct tape of course! The seam where the lid joins could be sealed if it's an emergency pot, or split with a knife if not. Then a big ranger band could be used for some water protection.
Anyway, on to some more pictures.
I've also got a nice stainless steel tin that came with some biscuits - it's perfect for fitting in the 10x4 with a Guyot inside it. I still need to put some holes in the sides and include some wire for hanging it over a fire. Even has a lid - perfect! Did I mention pictures???
The plastic pot fits nicely inside the tin, with the Guyot on top, so for me that protects it well. It could also be put on the bottom of the 10x4 of course, but would be a little more vulnerable to getting squished then.
This is the 10x4, attached to my Sabrecat, with the SS tin and plastic pot inside:
Here is the top of the stack then, it fits pretty much the same height whether the pot is inside the tin, or underneath it.
It's a perfect fit when zipped up too. The zip closes without any undue effort and the whole lot fills the pouch to the very top. Talk about made for each other!
There is another alternative that I might try out - that's putting the pot into the lid of the 10x4. It won't stay there of course, but if I glue some velcro onto the top and/or sides it will. That would make the pot very easily accessible. It's also probably safer than being at the bottom of the pouch if not inside a tin like mine.
Amazing how useful these 10x4's are!
