We had another beautiful day out today and I snapped a photo of my new 15" AK from the 2/18 DOTD. I thought all you snowed-in Northerners might enjoy a little sunshine in your day. :)

Actually it's been downright balmy here the last couple of days. 40-45 degrees with bright sunny blue skies. Gets to freezing at night though.
Right now everything is either melting off during the day or refreezing as ice at night.

That sounds awesome. We have had a couple cold fronts come through and the temp has been really up and down. It's near 80 today and just a couple days ago it was in the 50's. No snow obviously, but a good bit of rain. Today was nice and dry so I took the chance to do a little yard work.

It's been pretty darn nice in the SF Bay Area. Even went fishing yesterday, 65 degrees with 4MPH winds, beautiful day, even caught a +5lb rainbow! Nice day indeed.

Its a sunny 81 here in TX and rising! I still have coals burning in the fireplace from last night:rolleyes:Only in Texas.
Ill hit you up for for a Lachuu 20" AK phillll!

And Ill raise you a Tirtha 21" Sirupati from the same DOTD! Tirtha will be missed dearly by me!! His work is superb! His long blades are magical! That Vim really is nice! Im glad you got it!

Love the grain on that 20", Danny. I have an old 20" AK and 21" Siru, both by Shankar kami.

I agree that Tirtha will be missed. I have an 18" GRS by him that is top notch. It is also sad to hear that Vim might not be making any more big knives, even when he does get better.

Thanks sno! Dont really know what happened with Tirtha?
Phil: That neem handle was really light before I BLO'd it up! Here is when she was still shiny. It really darkened up and contrasted nicely. Yours is nice as well. Thats what i was hoping to get when I ordered but got neem. Now im glad I got the neem for something different.

That Siru is very cool! I took it out yesterday for some slicing with my Hanshee. I was whacking the tops off plastic water bottles without even knocking them over. The Hanshee was a hit and miss because im not used to the drop and I dont know what the heck im doing anyway but sure was fun!

The change in that neem from un-oiled to oiled is amazing! I didn't think it got that dark. Never would have guessed it was neem from the first picture.

The siru is cool indeed. Pretty heavy as far as sirus go and it has a left-handed sheath with some cool embossing on the leather.

My Siru was missing the Chack and Karda so I may play with the sheath a bit. Im thinking removing the small sheaths and maybe even remove the hide and make a wooden sheath with some copper bands or something with whats left. Slip the frog back on? Dont know what the wood looks like underneath but maybe ill BLO it up some too:eek:?

If I'm not mistaken Tirtha has been gone for quite a long time. He was gone when I met Auntie last summer. He went home to visit family or something and just never returned. He may have come back and I didn't hear about it.

He sure made a lots of good stuff while he was here. Seems like he was making everything for the company for a while.

keep in mind they make lots of knives, and they aren't bought up right away, so for years he produced blades, like raj kumar and any of them, so we have been clearing out tirtha stock in the dotd for over a year :D -- I remember after commenting to auntie how much I liked tirtha she warned me he would not be coming back ( as they never heard from him again) --- his beermug mark is one of my favorites, but I dont have enough by vim or LOk-- so anyone reading this, send me an email , I want to buy vim and loks work :D

Here's my super duper warm winter paradise. Actually, now that I say that, it HAS been unseasonably warm recently. I think we hit 38 yesterday.

Looks like a Paul Bunyon and the Khukri story to me. I need to score me some wood. Almost to tearing the siding off the neighbors house to keep the stove going. Nice picture.

We're stocking back up right now. We're burning the Pellet stove when we can, but lord knows when they'll be in stock long term. We have a lot of blow downs from this winters storms and the KLVUK just eats through em. It's kinda scary.

Great pictures guys! Now dirty those pretty blades up!

philllll knows where it's at, a Used Blade is a Loved Blade. ;) And it looks like Phil's blades are well loved. :D

Trust me Wildmanh! ...they are dirty now! First thing I do when I get the triangle box in the mail is do a photo session while they are clean. Then its all over:D

Probably going to head out right now and do some "collection" for the wooden sheath I intend to do for the KLVUK. Next step is to research ways to make a wooden sheath. What kinds of wood would y'all recommend? Hardwoods, coniferous, I have quite a few choices.
