Today I got to spend 5 straight hours in the smithy. I cleaned thing up a bit ( now I'll never find anything), then forged for about four hours. I forged what I am calling a kindling Axe. It weighs two pounds and is basically a hawk with a steep angle blade and a splitting wedge for the spike. I forged a kindling hawk ( sort of a mouse hawk) that has a much finer edge, almost a knife edge, and a curved spike for pulling wood apart that has been partially split. I have been making kindling hawks lately, and they sell well. I use HF ball peen hammers for the stock, and water quench the edges. With winter coming, everyone with a fireplace wants one.
I also forged two W2 blades. One is a short chef's blade and the other is a small tanto. This is from Aldo's steel. Forges like butter.
I'll try and post photos when I get them finished.

Tomorrow, my friend ,Don, is coming over for another forging lesson. We will probably forge some more hawks, and he really wants to try some W2. Maybe we will do an osaraku-zukuri tanto. He really likes different things.
