Anybody out there know of a good diving knife. I am looking in the $75 to $125 range. Most of the knives I have seen are cheap throw aways. All coments are appreciated.

Have you seen the Mission Knife and Tool Titanium Dive knife?

I am not a diver so, I'll reserve personal comments other then to say it is not the typically over priced piece of junk you find at dive shops.

mission knife and tool looks pretty good, They are the only ones I'm thinking about buying. Gerber's new trident looks pretty good but a little pricey for cm154

heck out the Myerchin Rigging Knifes at WWW.myerchin.com good solid knives fix and folding models
Blessed are those who help the meek to inherit the earth by thwarting those who would inherit the meek for they shall be called warriors

Don't buy this mission knive knife !
It sure looks like good , but it isn't a diving knife:
a diving knife must have a wide handle , if not you can't use it will wearing gloves.
you don't need it to protect yourself from sharks/giant squids /terrorists , but to be able to cut a cord or a net underwater.
The best diving knives i personally know are made by Scubapro , Beuchat and Sporasub , and will cost you a lot less than this one .

Thanks for the reply guys, still looking. I want something with a rubber handle, some serrations and a solid pommel

johnniet,

Hey, I didn't write their crappy Ad. :D The line about "Stealth Fighter" is about as stupid a sales pitch as I've ever seen.

The Ad copy sucks, but the knife has lasted 2 years without a problem. Takes an edge and holds it about as well as anyone can ask from Ti. I have the "Double Edge Pointed Tip" model and it has worked well for me in both cutting and prying.

The double lock on the sheath takes a little practice but it will keep the knife from taking a hike. Haven't tried the Leg Wrap.

Randall Model 16 Diver's Knife. Finest diving knife on the market. It's nearly indestructible, however it will run you approximately $280.

The best dive knife that I have found so far are EMT shears. They don't get confiscated in the Carribean, either...

Dayum! Sounds very cool!

chad.church,

I was trying hard to stay in the $75 to $125 range you set. They run around $80. Less off e-Bay.

Don't know about scuba, but when I've been free-diving, likely the most important hazard a cutting tool would help deal with is monofilament line.

Shears, or a knife with a line-cutting hook are required, IMO. I don't think that any knife without the line cutting hook should be called a diving knife. I think I've seen small tools made specifically for cutting line too. Not a bad idea to have one as a back-up.
