Did some googling and saw that a lot of folks like the maxpedition brand. I took a look at what they had to offer and didn't see anything that really stood out for me. I'm just looking for a backpack, no sling type or messenger bags. Can't do olive drab or camo. This is for carrying everyday to work and around town. All suggestions are welcome! :) Thanks

I have tons of Maxpedition stuff. Its spendy, but it lasts forever. My sons, now 12 and 15, have been using the Condor II as school backpacks for 4 years. No other backpack could last anywhere near that long. Its a basic, two shoulder traditional backpack. Consider also the Pygmy Falcon II, which is similar though a little smaller with a slightly different form factor. But its also a two shoulder backpack. For the office, I might go with the latter, as its just a little slimmer and more agile, though still has plenty of space.

thanks guys. I'll give maxped a 2'nd look. of the traditional packs I saw on their site last time I looked, most of them seemed too large. some of the sling packs looked just right size for me, but I don't like the single sling style.

I have 2 Maxpedition backpacks and 2 of there versipacks along with a ton of there small gear. Its all been great stuff, but for EDC i kind of like the greyman approach. Maxpedition stands out too much for me, i can spot anything with molle webbing from a mile away. That said theirs nothing wrong with a Jansport or similar backpack for EDC. I've got a few that are 5+ years old and still going. Best part is they were only 30 bucks or so.

Also hit up REI if you can, including their store brand.

I use a goruck gr1 and love it! Kinda spendy. I have also had maxpedition bags and liked them as well

I have a Samsonite. I can't find the model, but take a look at their website under business backpacks. Lots of options.

You might want to check out the 5.11 COVRT 18. It's got those "tactical" features inside but it doesn't stand out like the Maxpedition stuff.

What type of work clothes are you wearing? Almost any backpack is going to look out of place with a suit or even a jacket and tie.

I was recently shopping for a new backpack as well. Through my month long extensive google-fu session I narrowed it down to two really nice USA makers. Mission Workshop (super stylie) & Mystery Ranch (super versatile). I chose the Mystery Ranch "SweetPea" in OD green & I absolutely could not be happier!

picked this up for a similar reason & love it. mine's black, but i went with that for a reason. i think they come in different color combinations. camelbak makes a similar pack for ccw for LE/MIL only, but i passed on that. this pack still facilitates ccw good enough for my purposes.

** i should have said i've had good luck with camelbaks, as far as durability and value. throw this pack over one shoulder and no one gives it a second look.

I LOVE my Swiss Gear backpack. This thing is incredibly robust and a wonderful all around pack.

Maxpedition gear is great. But my Swiss Gear would look a lot more at place in a civilian, non-woodsy environ.

While I own some Maxpedition products, I havent drank the Kool Aid like some folks, LoL. Get yourself a 511 Rush 12 or 24 in black, its what I use for the office, Heck, I would be comfortable taking it to church. Great stuff, you wont be disappointed.

Respectully disagree, with the age of laptops, Ipads, etc, small backpacks are getting to be more common than the traditional briefcase, IMO

I use a North Face Surge in a professional office setting. To bring down its profile even further, I blacked out the white stitched logo and reflective inserts with a black waterproof marker. I also had a shoe repair shop stitch two Fastex lash patches (Campmor) on the bottom to hold a shell, etc. Its's a great set up. My son uses the same set up in grad school. Very low profile, ~2100 cu. in. capacity, great compartmentalization and reasonable price, $100 on sale, $125 msrp.

Check out the line of FUL powered bags. I just got the FUL Powerbag sling and really like it. They come with a rechargeable battery built into the bag. It allows you to charge a number of different devices while mobile. Just plug your phone or tablet or whatever into the built in cables inside the bag.

I also occasionally use T-Tech by TUMI bags. Really good quality but a bit pricey. Good luck

If you are looking at Maxpedition and dont want one too big, I suggest looking at the Pigmy Falcon II.
