There are also Youtube reviews about it too.

Thanks for all the replies, guys! You've given me a lot of good choices to look at.

What type of work clothes are you wearing? Almost any backpack is going to look out of place with a suit or even a jacket and tie.

Mainly khakis and button downs. There are suits in my building, but for my department we mainly wear business casual. A standard looking backpack would be totally acceptable here. A tactical looking backpack might get some strange looks though.

I was recently shopping for a new backpack as well. Through my month long extensive google-fu session I narrowed it down to two really nice USA makers. Mission Workshop (super stylie) & Mystery Ranch (super versatile). I chose the Mystery Ranch "SweetPea" in OD green & I absolutely could not be happier!

I actually had looked at the Sweatpea but wasn't sure if it would be good for organizing my stuff since it appeared to be just one large compartment. I do like Mystery Ranch's stuff, though.

In that case I think you'd be ok with any traditional looking (not tactical) backpack. Interestingly, I think the Swiss Army packs, even though tacticool black nylon, would probably pass. The Swiss cross is widely accepted and disarming when compared to something OD green from Maxpedition.

If you want to look at an alternative to tactical looking or synthetic materials check out a Filson rucksack. Its classic looks and waxed canvas & bridle leather construction looks go well with khakis. I often carry a Filson computer bag and sometimes a Filson field bag to the office which is business casual and both bags get lots of compliments.

I use the Camelbak H.A.W.G. NV 100 oz Hydration Pack

It works perfect for me to bring some spare clothing/rain jacket, water (24 or 32 oz Nalgene bottle), snacks, first aid, tools, etc. to work every day. I use the same thing on weekend road trips and hiking (with 100 oz reservoir). It's all purpose and looks like a regular backpack. The straps are very comfortable and durable. So is the belt, but I don't often use that and leave it cinched in. The back allows lots of air flow so you stay dry and comfortable there, too. The reservoir is awesome as you would expect from Camelbak.

I don't remember what I spent, but I'm sure it wasn't the $150 retail. Maybe $120 tops.

Good luck in your search!

Camelbak urban assault or urban transport. Both have great laptop sleeves and more than adequate organization.

I also use a Camelbak HAWG NV to carry stuff back and forth to the office. It's "foliage" which looks grey in most light. It does have some molle webbing, but doesn't scream "ninja" as it's a pretty small 'pack.

Interesting thread. I've been looking into similar options myself although I don't have any asthetic restrictions on my choices and picked up a TAD gear Fast Pack litespeed. One other option I looked at was this http://www.tacticaltailor.com/urbanoperatorpack.aspx It uses the high grade 1000 denier Cordura nylon construction with good organization features and a large side zip padded laptop sleeve without the molle webbing look. It does have the velcro loop on the outside but my understanding is they will remove this before shipping if you desire. I'm sure they would remove the webbing on the right side too if it was an issue for you. They are a tailor shop after all.

I still might get one of these if circumstance permits.

I just got this Vertx EDC ready pack. It's designed to look unassuming while still retaining all of the tactical goodies. It's a really awesome pack.

I have 2 packs that I carry almost every day in my work van. The first is my EDC pack that goes just about everywhere with me. It is a Maxpedition Pygmy Falcon 2 in black. It is great because no one even blinks at it. Your average adult and quite few of the younger crowd are carrying a black backpack that looks pretty similar.

The second backpack is an Ogio (also in black). The thing about the Ogio is that it's built out of a similar robust material. Most other regular packs are built out of much flimsier material. Case in point: I bought a nice black pack at Eddie Bauer and the insides of it ripped with very little use.

I love my Swissgear by Wenger, tons of compartments and pockets for everything you'll need to carry and it also makes a great day hike bag! My only recommendation is that you will want your bag to have a really nice square bottom and semi rigid sides, so that it stands up on it's own after it is broken in, something that most of the bags especially the slimmer ones won't do!

Dana Gleason's son (also Dana I think) brought back the old Kletterwerks brand. They'd be my pick, based on designs, performance and style.

I would really encourage you to look into Topo Designs. They're all made in the USA, the company is based in Colorado and they make some seriously tough bags. They also have great vintage-ish styling and a lot of functionality. I have several styles and love them all
