Good EDC blade qualities?

As of now, I have a Kershaw blur in s30v which I carry most often. I own an Ontario rat 1 which is my beater knife. I have a spyderco resilience in 8cr13mov for food prep. Lastly I have a Kershaw cryo in 8cr13mov which I carry as a secondary edc aka the knife I take out in public.

I have no issues with any of the steels, but I guess I'm looking for something that can be my go to edc. The blur is great, but sometimes I feel the recurve isn't the right choice for some applications.

What I'm Looking For

Blade Shape: drop point, sheepsfoot, tanto. Anything besides recurve and wharncliffe.

Handle Materials: open to anything. Except for plastic. Frn, thermoplastic, zytel etc.

Blade Steel: open to suggestions

Opening Method: open. But with thumbstuds, I'd prefer the design of the Kershaw blurs angled studs. But I like various other methods.

Locking mechanism: triad lock, compression lock, axis lock, lockback. I'd rather not have another linerlock or framelock.

So if you can suggest the best options in each of the above categories, I'd be able to narrow down my choices and find something I like. Thanks

***BUDGET IS $50-$150***

I guess the thing I need to know is what are you willing to spend?

There are a ton of good knives to choose from with those traits, but the price plays a huge role in your choice. I have some ideas but let me know your budget first. Otherwise my recommendations will range $30-$1300 (not kidding, I EDC a $900 knife pretty regularly, so perspective is important ;) )

Got some good steel suggestions as well, but again I'll need your budget first.

i guess the most desirable feature of an edc blade would be rust resistance. second would be edge retention.

however, i always edc a slip joint knife in either 1095 or case cv steel.

Budget is a big part of the equation, as you need to be comfortable with a knife you can afford to use(and potentially damage) for true everyday carry, IMO.

How about the Benchmade HK 14715.

It's got:
- Good steel (D2)
- The handle you like (G10)
- Axis Lock
- Blade Shape that fits your specs

And all that for like $100, great deal!

Misses the liner lock/frame lock exclusions, but otherwise gold if his budget permits.

OP,
Spyderco Paramilitary 2 should get some nods, as well as the Manix 2 (available with G-10 and steel liners instead of FRN). Each uses S30V, which is in a range of steels that I've come to love for EDC. Good corrosion resistance, edge retention, and maintainability. The Manix 2 is also inexpensive by most standards.

The OP has a $50 Kershaw and a couple other $30 knives. He specifically stated "I'd rather not have another linerlock or framelock" so people suggest a $300 liner lock CRK?

$425 frame lock, actually.

When you say no plastic, do you mean no G10 too?

If you're okay with G10 I'd recommend the Spyderco Cat

Nice budget knife but its a liner lock.

If your open to Spyder hole instead of thumbstud I'd recommend a Spyderco Paramilitary 2.

Well that certainly narrows things down. :D

Never had one personally, but sounds like a PM2 is what you're looking for. Serviceable blade steel, compression lock, modified drop point, and G10 handles. If you really don't like G10, hit up spaceman for some aluminum or Ti scales. They look fantastic.

I look for a blade in the 3.5" to 3.75" range, with a keen point such as maybe a spear point, G10 scales, some kind of lock easy to operate with one hand such as liner lock, frame lock, axis lock, BBL, or compression lock. I prefer steels of S30V or better. But I also look for knives in the $100-175 range used.

Consequently I like knives such as the Paramilitary 2, Manix 2, Benchmade 581, Benchmade Stryker 913.

I thought I was missing something. Thanks for the heads up, and I'm looking to spend 50-150. As a broke college student, I don't have 1000 dollars to spend on a piece of metal that will be in my pocket 65% of the time
