Ok I want to make a survival kit for the city. So far, Im going to put a Folder (kershaw storm), a multitool (vic rs), 15 feet of fishing line, (i dont want to or need to waste paracord for day to day lashing but there is some on the lanyard.), Some hooks/sinkers for taking walks near the creek. A ferro rod just in case. and a light (undecided but thinking of the 1 AAA batery mini mag.)
any other suggestions? This isnt for camping or hunting. Just nice to have stuff that Ill use alot.

person. I Dont want to carry any pouches besides the vic rs one but I plan to sew a pocket on the front of it. It will be mainly pocket carry.

You could try to make an altoid psk. I carry mine in my front pocket all the time.

Actually I plan on stuffing all the little stuff into a plastic match case (you know the waterproof ones with the compas and little flint, hunter orange.)

The 3 in 1 or the 5 in 1 whistle? You should be able to get quite a few things in that.

IMO
Ditch the fishing line and get a bobbin of HD black polyester thread or bow string material. This stuff will work well for fishing and for sewing. And on that note you should add two sewing needles, a reg. and a HD machine type (awl type).
Dont forget a mini bic and tinder, cotton balls if nothing else.
Don't go overboard on a light you just want something that works. Also be careful that you dont add to much crap or you will not carry it. For a keychain a photon or something like it works well.

it was a 5 in one but I sawed off the whistle because it just didnt feel right. If I go to the woods, I will carry a real whistle.

And frediver, I have a ferro rod w/striker and tinder in the match box. A bic just takes up too much room and I dont smoke. :D Though I will take the needles and about 4 feet of polyester thread.

If you want fishing line heres what you do. Take one of your shoes. unlace it, wrap fishing line around one of the lace holes. relace put on. Profit.

Commuter pack bag:

Nalgene with water
More spare change

Spare reading glasses
Gloves
Rain hat
AM/FM/TV/Weather radio
Gerber Infinity LED flashlight
Spare batteries
PDA
Digital camera
Granola bar, candy
Small pouch with zip ties, duct tape, wire, braided nylon line -- McGyver stuff
Matches
Bic lighter
Keychain style compass
Whistle
Harmonica
Pens and magic marker
Note pad

Thanks. I ll add a amall pen and duck tape/wire. I never carry a bag around the city but those 2 fit in the pocket

I can't really understand why you would need to carry fishing kit in the city.

Flashlight is a good idea but the AAA maglite is not a great choice. Go for one of the keyring led lights or small handhelds by Princeton Tec, they're pretty good. For serious lighting power have a look at the small Fenix flashlights like the P1. They're really powerful.

Also a whistle is a great idea.

I live in the city but there are tons of large parks. One of my favorites has a stream and there are fish there. So sometimes when I go for a walk....;) (its not a kit, just 3 hooks and 3 sinkers.)
