Good fine belts?

I've had trouble settling on a good fine belt to use now that I've got variable speed. I LOVED the gators when all I had was fast, but now that I have slow speeds, they're not smooth enough. Are there any belts in the 220/400/600 range that you guys can recommend?

I like the Hermes from Tru Grit as well as the cork belts in 400 and 800 for the performance and economy they both are hard to beat.

I've found the Hermes j-flex have worked quite nicely for me so far. They seem to wear well and are a bit more open grained than the standards. I've also had a couple bad trims and joint failures on the standard Hermes in the last weeks, so I may be steering clear for a bit until it gets sorted.

It seems to me that the jflex get pretty good qc too, I haven't seen one go bad or come bad yet.

It's hard to spend big money on the finer grits since they go so fast. I don't mind the money for a 50 grit blaze because they seem to just keep cutting.

I really like Norax belts from Usa Knifemakers. Also sold by hardware World, Pheer, and True Grit.

Norax are really nice. One good thing about them is, they don't have a bump at the splice like other belts do. This is important if using a small wheel.
