Good First Spyderco?

My first was an Endura, but I think the Centofante 3 or 4 would make a good first look at Spyderco.

It's a good light weight, very comfortable knife. I have the Centofante 4 and next to the Cricket, it's my favorite Spyderco.

I think that the Caly 3, in its "basic" VG10 version, or the quite similar (except the lock) Sage are really nice allround Spydercos. The Caly 3 is such an elegant performer that you may wonder why you should continue to buy other knives. I prefer it over a delica.

The Endura 4 is a great choice. Great steel, large blade size, long slender handle.

I saw someone mention the Native 4. Another good choice in a smaller form factor with excellent steel.

I'd like to add the Tenacious it you're looking for a great value ($30). Decent steel, G-10 scales, solid liner lock, excellent fit and finish, phosphor bronze bushings. Sized in between the Endura and Native.

Can't go wrong with Endura or its little sister the Delica. They're not expensive, and they represent all the qualities you should expect from a Spyderco. The only thing to consider is size: the Endura at almost 4" is a rather large pocket knife, and not very friendly to non-knife enthusiasts. The Delica at under 3" can seem puny, although it's still very functional.

if you wanna go less expensve... Delica4 for sure. My fav Spydie, all things considered, has been my Paramilitary... FANTASTIC knife and good for all occasions... Millie is what I would EDC if not for some "sheeple." Honestly, there are very few occasions where I miss my Millie when I have my Para... It's simply a first class, and impressive, example of what is possible with a folding knife. So I would say... the D4 is a great functional tool... if you wanna be IMPRESSED, go with a Para!

I think an Endura would be a good one to start out; either a Emerson opener in FRN handles or a flat ground version with G10 handles.

The Millie is a great starter for anyone, because it makes all the other spydercos feel inferior :D

The problem for him is not going to be the first Spyderco he buys, but the second, third and so on. Beware, they are addictive and should carry a warning on the box as such.

bought my first spyderco about 20yrs ago it was a rescue, serrated, still got it, the only thing that has went wrong was the polymer pocket clip broke when i snagged it on something, the a little delica, both are superb and there has been many purchases since.

any spyderco that you get will serve you well, excellent customer service and dependability.

i love my little cricket and a meerkat is awesome, all of them cut like it is cool, so have a big time...

Go Endura. You wont regret it. I like the thicker blade on it rather than the really thin blade on the police 3.

GO RANGERS!
